Lock, marvel S, Crux pearl?
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:01:41 PM »
I'm trying to decide if I want to get another ball. My current arsenal is a haywire, critical (not drilled yet but will be soon), revolt havoc, forza redline, and a tag. I want something else and was thinking about trying to find a lock, marvel S, Crux pearl, maybe a eternal cell or hyper cell skid. I'm a higher Rev bowler and have seen many people use a marvel S but have heard it's really strong. But I know it's like a legend of a ball and am considering it for mainly tournaments. What do you guys think? I know I haven't given much info but what would compliment my arsenal better.

It really depends what kind of bal motion you want to get.

Could you please let us know what you're looking out of this new ball of yours?

Yes we all know that, just what kind of ball motion do you want to get out of it?

If you're looking for superior hook and a continuous backend reaction I would suggest going with the Storm Lock. The Crux Pearl and Hyper Cell Skid would be excellent choices if you're looking for something that gets a little further down the lane is more angular. The Eternal cell would give you a more controllable motion compared to most assymetrical balls on the market today. And if you're just looking for a strong controllable back-end then the Marvel-S would be the ball of choice.

If you're looking for something to be at the top of your bag to hook on the heaviest of oil conditions then I would get a Lock. If you would like a stronger compliment to your Critical, an Eternal Cell would be a bit stronger, earlier reading ball. If you'd like something for freshly oiled lane conditions I would personally get a Marvel-S.

I personally think that if you're a higher-rev player, the Lock would be too much ball. If you don't have anything in the bag that's good for freshly oiled lane conditions, I would go and get a Marvel-S, however it will react pretty similarly to the Haywire.

Considering all the points above, and your current Arsenal, if I were you, I would prefer to get an Eternal Cell. Great compliment to your critical and fits in the Arsenal really well.

Hope this helps!

Great insight! Ivery been thinking of a marvel S but my haywire is pretty strong. Even though it's strong on our 42 ft house shot in can use it all night and and rarely move past 35 with my feet.

The Marvel-S is smooth rolling earlier hooking ball that lends itself to big hook in oil. I prefer it when playing the track area and outside.  The Lock is an oil monster that will try to put its ball motion towards the back part of the lane.  If you need to generate entry angle in oil, this is your choice.  The Crux fits between the two but handles slightly less oil.   The is my preferred wall shot ball.  The Crux pearl is a monster when the heads start to go and you need push.

Can you get your hands on a Marvel S? They are discontinued and the ones showing up on eBay have gone for $$$.

I don't know how the new cover on the Alpha Crux compares to NRG, but the new ball looks strong. Scheduled release date is 5+ weeks away though (3/1).

I think overall the Eternal Cell will play similar to the Revolt Havoc, the Critical similar to the Crux Pearl (please note I am saying similar, not identical as different people and different drills can see a wide array of reactions).

The Haywire uses Microbite, which I have been told is the same cover as NRG for Storm. I don't see much difference between the Marvel S and Haywire other than the Marvel has a bit more diff.

All that leads me back to the Alpha Crux. Its a cover you do not currently have in your arsenal and knowing Storm, giving them the lead up time to release date, you are going to have plenty of videos to review to see if you like the reaction the ball gives or not prior to laying out your money for one.

Just my opinion.

I have Marvel-S, Crux (not pearl), and a Lock.  All of them have their box surface (3000 abralon).

The Marvel-S is the earliest and most aggressive, the Lock goes the longest and has the most entry angle, the Crux sits right between them in length and angularity.
