I bought one of these balls recently, and information was very hard to come by. In fact, this old thread was all I could find. Given that these balls continue to appear on eBay from time to time, I decided to go ahead and update the thread.
This ball is a lot more aggressive than it would seem. It is a go-long, hook-late ball in the configuration I have it in (4-inch pin, roughly 70-degree angle to the VAL; rev-dominant two-hander). I probably should have drilled it weaker, but honestly I wasn't expecting much, and then it surprised me. I can't throw it on dry conditions. The response to friction in the backend is such that it occupies a spot in my bag for medium to greater-than-medium oil volumes.
Having said that, the cover is very shiny -- it's also a visually bracing combination of silver and bright gold colors, a very unique combination -- and it probably wouldn't hurt to knock a bit off the box finish if you want to tame down the breakpoint somewhat. Despite this angularity and strength, it is surprisingly predictable. It's not going to dig you out of many bad shots but it's also not going to be the cause of unexpected leaves.
One last thing: The scent is called "root beer." It's more like someone uncorked a tube of Ben-Gay. I am more than ready for it to lose its scent because my bag smells like a pharmacy right now.
All in all, this ball does a good job of being the kind of ball I immediately think of when I think of classic Storm pearl equipment: angular, good carry, predictable, does its job. I wish this had been an actual release in larger numbers.
