Depth Charge
« on: March 02, 2005, 08:24:02 AM »
Just purchased one of these today. It should be here next week, what can I expect from this ball. I purchased it to fit in  as my medium-light oil ball. I roll slowly with med revs, about 15 MPH. I currently have a XXX that works well for me on heavier oil patterns and a Pearlized Pulse that works equally well on dry lanes as well as THS. Thanks for your help anyone who knows about this DC ball.

Depth Charge will definitely NOT fit in the med-light oil ball with 15mph. Not even with 17-18mph unless you drill it relatively weaker and tweak the surface.

It can handle medium to heavier mediums. It will, probably complement your XXX with similar oil handling capability, but different look.

You need to get it drilled weaker and adjust the surface if you still want to use it for med-light conditions..

I had two of them and drilled many for different styles. Trust me, it is relatively a strong ball.

The ball appears to be drilled with the pin right of the ring, cg out a little from under the palm. Also this is a lighter ball than I am used to, so I may be able to swing a little more speed out of her. I will DEFINATELY polish it up as high as "Finesse It II" will allow before I even take it to the lanes.

Not necessarily. It depends on how much hand he has. Take myself for example. I don't have a lot of hand. I had one before dropping to 14# balls and it was drilled with Pin under RF and the therotical MB on the VAL and it worked great on medium and medium light oil for me, so it all depends on the amount of hand he has. Note....read my profile.

I would recommend trying the ball first before polishing. Why polish it to a high polish before you even know what it will do for you?

That is true brickguy. Maybe I should go give it a shot first. We'll see how it goes. If I have to have the drilling altered before I can use it, it will be (if I use the current ball the "pro" is working on for me) a couple of weeks. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Anyway .. i agree that this wont work on med/light ..

Storm Dave, apparently you didn't read my post. If you will note, I am living proof that it depends on how much hand he has. If he has a lot of hand, you are right. If he doesn't have much hand like myself, then you are wrong.

Well Dave, you may have something. I may have inadvertantly bought myself a new top dog. Oh well, I can always polish up the XXX. BTW, I do have a spinner, not real good at using it yet, but its a start.

Dave, the only time I really get to try heavier oil patterns is when they are preparing for a tourney. This was most recently done last weekend. The XXX did not have a extreme hook, however it created the most reaction of anything I have (Pulse,Synergy solid, Wicked BRT). I used the XXX tonight on a THS and had to take a little out of the revs to control it, but I must admit I was quite distracted due to my pulse not being ready. (see my post on local pro shops in MISC)Maybe when I have the two balls there with me I can see what I've got a little better. I don't think I could have bowled well tonight with any ball on any pattern. Thanks for all your input so far guys.
