Diablo, a great bench mark
« on: September 26, 2005, 01:33:51 PM »
15lbs, 4 1/2 X 3 1/2, hole down.  can be played anywhere on the lanes.  oil, play straight, burned, play inside.  as close to my super charge as any ball could get.  thanks to bill ray of www.raysproshop.com for getting me into the proper fit and drilled to my style of bowling.  thanks again bill.

Hiya. Looking for a little more information from people who've thrown it.

Looking to replace a Depth Charge and had this ball recommended. I would categorize my house as medium-heavy. The DC was drilled pin under ring, CG kicked out slightly (3/4"? perhaps), small x-hole for weight-removal, would roll up early with a strong, arcing backend. I would normally play 15 to 10 with the option of swinging it a little more when the lanes opened up, say 17-18 to 10 or so and occasionally more depending on how the breakdown occurs.

Looking for another great mid-priced piece and hoping this is the one. If you've got any more info, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

well jd, what you mention is exact to what i wrote in my review of the diablo.  pin is just right of ring finger and cg kicked just right.  i never threw the depth charge but had the super charge and loved it.  this ball is very close to my super with a stronger arch.  hope this helps.

You can read my stats in my profile, but this is the first Storm ball I've had in a while (used to own an Eraser Pearl Particle and still have a Hot Wire for tournament action). I drilled it with the pin above ring finger, cg kicked out 1" left of midline and a weighthole down 2" from cg drilled about 2" deep to bring the weights into balance. I left it in box condition and this ball can handle a decent amount of oil. I've been using in the past an Absolute Inferno and Havoc as benchmark balls in this house, but the Diablo allows me to play deeper in the oil (usually around 15 at the start of the night and swinging out to 5 at the breakpoint) with no energy loss and great pin action on both the light and flush hits.

I've seen my friend through his Super Charge and I would say the reaction shape is similar with the Diablo being a board or two stronger in terms of coverage. I've thrown this ball at the end of a shift just as well as I can at the beginning of a shift.

Hope this helps you...

Matt

I've posted I just saw a friend throw a 900 no tap while bowling a real score match with the Diablo(78X actual).

He is slow speed and has all sorts of energy retention problems.

He owns a ton of storm and tried a Screamin Banshee(great ball for playing straighter in the heads.  Atomic Charge, over revved for him and ran out of pop.
Fired Up, Ragin Banshee.

He did not have a Super Charge but while I see the Diablo as similar I believe it can be played just as inside but may carry better and have a little straighter flight in the heads and mids.

This looks like a great benchmark inside line ball from Storm.

One of the best reactive solids I've seen....and I loved the Super Charge!

Bill is great.  He will be the only one drilling my bowling balls from here on out.  By the way, Bill if you read these post at all, keep me post on that dry lane ball we talked about.

Our proshop driller throws his polished. Its got a nice midlane read. It is a great compliment to the fired up.

i kept mine in the box finish and still have it that way after a week of use.  i love the reaction this ball has and it remindes me alot of my super charge, but the diablo hits harder with better pin action.

Sounds like the Diablo would fit right into what you are looking for.
Probably a bit earlier with a more readable backend motion.(controllable)

Jim, Thanks for the nice words and I look forward to working with you further to get you back to where you belong competitively!

I have a 15lb Diablo as my primary ball right now and I'm having very good success with it.  It's drilled for a more controllable backend and I've been able to use it from Medium-Light to Medium-Heavy fairly easily.  I shot a 288 with it in a league last night, I really like this one and I'm thinking about buying a Fired Up to complement it.

I will talk to you Monday and see which way we want to go.
If you are looking for new ball I am thinking drilling a fired up the same as the Diablo but without a weight hole for medium type lanes. If you need something for a much lighter pattern I am thinking a Hot Rod SS.

We can kick around some ideas on Monday when we talk.
