Depending on how you drill the Hy-Road, I would go with that ball.  Its got a very smooth reaction and for me, really drives through the pins.

You could go with a polished dimension, but I would say that that its kind of taking the ball out of its element.  A couple of guys in my league have polished their Dimensions and have complained that it has killed the ball.

I have both the Hy-Road and Dimension with the same layout. Suface wise I have them both at 2k abralon and snake oil and there is a big difference between the two. The dimension is much earlier and much stronger, hard say how much on a house shot but I really have to move inside a good amount, the Hy-Road gets down the lane a lot more and makes a more pronounced turn. If I had to guess i'd say at least 6 boards difference between the two if not more. The Dimension seems to get pushed under the rug since the Virtual Gravity came out with its rad colors, both balls use the same Coverstock and the Dimension rolls earlier, I've found the Virtual is one that just "visually" hooks more.

And back to your topic, the Hy-Road would be better IMHO.

The Hy-Road, in my opinion, is a better ball down option from the VG than a "polished" Dimension would be. It would be a time saver option too because if you were to choose the Dimension, your maintenance time on the ball would outweigh the maintenance time on the Hy-Road as you would have to constantly polish the Dimension session after session as you can just let the Hy-Road cover be for awhile before having to touch it up.

Agreed Mike, that the Dimension seems to be shoved under the rug since VG's arrival. I believe in my league, I am the only one still using my Dimensions while I look around and see VG's in the hands of those who had the Dimension before hand. With the ball being a hook monster that most league bowlers want to see, I am not surprised

I polished my Dimension when I got my Virtual also. There is huge difference in the amount of length the Dimension gets. I threw the shined Dimension on a version of Cheetah a few weeks back and it was getting longer than my Hy-Road and Street Rod Pearl.

To each his own, but I was able to find some utility for the Dimension in my tournament bag.

My VG is drilled 4.5 x 4.5 and my Hy-Road is 6.5 x 4.5.  Both OOB

With that being said my Hy-Road is my goto ball when the VG is to much.  A great 1-2 punch in my opinion.  I love the versitility of the Hy-Road.  I can swing it, belly it, or play dead up 5.  I really wanna try this ball on the Cheetah.

Depending on what you mean by 'go under' my initial reaction to your question would be neither.  If you are looking for a ball that could follow a Virtual (use when the Virtual's shot breaks down a bit) I would say either the Gravity Shift or look to the new Second Dimension when it comes out.

I like both the Dimension and the Hy-Road but I would not consider either as a ball I would use to complement a Virtual.  The Dimension is almost as strong as the Virtual but with a very different ball roll.  The Hy-Road is closer in roll, but too much of a friction step down from a Virtual.  Maybe a Virtual to Gravity to Hy-Road combo would work.
