Dimension / 2nd Dimension
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:49:19 AM »
OK, need some direction.   I have the Dimension which has worked wll
on lanes with oil (high series of 791), recently we have run into a little bit of a dry spell at the alleys where the Dimension is hooking but is dead on
arrival as it is burning up.  I have the Grand Illusion which has
quite a weak drilling and was looking for something to fill the gap.
A friend with similar stats and style purchased the 2nd D. and has been
bowling up a storm.  first D has a stacked lev./label drill.  Any thoughts
or experiences with the 2nd D.

Check out the video I submitted to videoballreviews.com that shows the Second Dimension compared directly against an identically-drilled Dimension.  Granted it's on a heavier oil pattern (a fresh sport pattern actually), but it gives you an idea of how the motions compare and how much more angle the Second Dimension generates downlane.  And, the Second Dimension surprisingly is very resiliant to burning up and rolling out despite being able to handle more oil than most pearls.  It should be exactly what you need between the Grand Illusion and Dimension.

For the record, on nights when I see enough oil to throw the Dimension first, I switch to the Second Dimension once it starts to lay off on the backend, and I'll move two or three boards further left to accomodate the extra backend reaction.

Dan , thank you for your input.

I seen a lot of reviews for the 2nd D, doesn't seem like too many
people have paired it up with the original Dimension.

Mike,

I initially was using my 2nd as either a short oil first ball out of the bag or for transition from my Virtual.  Lately I have been using exclusively as a transition ball from my Dimension and that is working out the best.  I would agree with Dan's concept of moving a bit left to account for the additional backend.

I have my Dimension at 5x3 - 1000 abralon and my 2nd at 4 1/2 x 4 - 2000 abralon.

I have the original Dimension as well as the Second. I rarely find use for my Original Dimension as the ball likes to hook at my feet and roll out unless there is a good portion of oil. On a heavier shot its a good 5-7 boards stronger than my Second Dimension (box finish same layout). I find they have very similar reaction shapes but overall hook the Original is much stronger. I like my 2D as a step down though as it does get some length and is pretty smooth for a pearl ball.
