Dimension coverstock shines up
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:52:17 AM »
We finds that the Dimension coverstock shines up rather quickly. Do we have to sand it dull every time it shines up ? Or just perform our normal cleaning routine of games will do ?
Question from my buddy who is switching to Storm.."Will the shine affect the reaction and life of the ball ?"

Mine has quite a few games on, nearing 100 by now. It shines up very fast but I have not noticed any reaction loss, it just seems to be appearance to me. I do clean it always and will refresh the cover from time to time but haven't done any more than cleaning in probably 40 games, it isn't tracking up for me but it is shining up.

My buddies are all in the same boat as me, it just shines up, one just got a Virtual and it isn't much if any stronger than the dimension with similar layouts when used on the same conditions (the hook is just about identical but the Virtual is a little longer and stronger).

And to end the blabbing, I wouldn't worry about it.

It only takes a handful of frames for my Dimension to become shiny looking after a fresh sanding.  However, I do not notice any change in performance when it begins to look shiny.  I perform the same maintenance on it that I do my other balls, and I have not seen any difference in it and other balls in how lane shine affects reaction.

Very strange about this Dimension acting this way. I also noted this in a buddy's tonight: it gets shiny but still has a strong reaction.

Normally that "shine" is called an "oil shine". It's the oil being ground into the coverstock and the shine will cause the ball to skid slightly more and hook [islightly[/i] less. and normally you'd use a strong cleaner immediately after bowling to remove that shine. yet the Dimension doesn't seem to be affected by it. Odd!

I DO STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOu KEEP CLEANLY IT IMMEDIATELY AFETR BOWLING, and before putting the ball away. Also use Clean and Dull after every 3 - 5 sets to deep clean it.

Let your ball reaction be your guide.  If the lane shine is giving you less hook than you want from it, then use Abralon pads on a regular basis to keep the hook where you want it.  If you like the reaction with lane shine then just clean it after each session.
