DIMENSION report from Storm staffer Jeff Richgels
« on: June 18, 2008, 12:07:54 PM »
Zowee! Have to think if I had had this ball in Albuquerque I would have fared a heckuva lot better ... might even have had 1,800!

5 1-2 pin to PAP, 4 3-4 "MB" to PAP, 5 1-2 pin buffer ("MB" is spot 6 3-4 from pin through CG, it's 4 1-2 CG to PAP)

I have heard nothing but rave reviews of the DIMENSION and have to say it completely lived up to everything I have heard.
I drilled my first DIMENSION with some advice from my doubles partner Steve Richter, a Roto-Grip staffer who already tested the DIMENSION and pronounced even stronger than the CELL (which I haven't thrown because it is not a Storm ball).
With my moderate ball speed and 325-350 rev rate, Steve advised me to go with a weaker pin distance and after we discussed things, I settled on a pin under my middle finger with the CG ending up a little right of my thumb hole (about a 60 degree drilling for those who use that method). I have a GRAVITY SHIFT with that drilling that I really like and feared a stronger pin would be too much for me and chose the pin under the fingers because I am looking to make my DIMENSION a ball I use on fresh oil where I need to get it into a roll (like the PBA Shark pattern) and over the fingers might have provided too much skid.
From what I had heard I was expecting a SPECIAL AGENT type of front and mid-lane reaction but then a much stronger and continuous reaction at the break point. And on a fresh house pattern on synthetics that is exactly what the DIMENSION delivered. For comparison, I brought along two 1,000 Abralon balls - my SPECIAL AGENT (pin under ring finger same drilling angle) and ATTITUDE SHIFT (the so-called Tommy Jones drilling where the pin is very high above the fingers with a 1-inch pin buffer and drilling angle almost straight down).
All three balls struck a lot but the DIMENSION provided both an easier float to the breakpoint than either of the others and a stronger move when it got to the break point. The move the DIMENSION made literally made me laugh – no matter how far I threw it out on the house pattern it returned and amazingly it never rolled out. A ball this strong with this much surface just shouldn't make that kind of move! Carry was well above average with just a couple of ring 10s and 4s. I was standing about 30 and crossing about 17 at the arrows. I had some miss in on the fresh house pattern and unlimited room out.
The DIMENSION probably is going to lead to the retirement of my beloved SPECIAL AGENTS. The SPECIAL is still a great ball – I've had some great recent PBA regional success with it – but the DIMENSION truly seems to be a new generation of ball technology for Storm.
We are bowling on Cheetah at the PBA regional this upcoming weekend so I probably won't need the DIMENSION but the next week is Scorpion so I may get to use it then and will update this report after I get to use it some more.
I will be trying some surface changes at some point. And I also have another DIMENSION that I will drill when I get a better of sense of what drilling might work best.

Hey Riggs,

If you had this ball at Nationals would you have altered the surface or left it box?  I'm hoping to have one punched up for Nats next week.  I don't have quite as much hand as you and was wondering should I adjust the surface?

I would have left it box ... unless it had a lot of lane shine. Then would have hit it with at least 1,000, maybe 500.

Glad the Dimension worked out better than the RF for you.

I think there's a Storm product that's gonna be in my bag after wrist rehab.

I have not thrown the RAPID FIRE PEARL. Did not order one after I struggled with carry with three different RAPID FIRE set-ups.

Sorry, Jeff.

Chalk it up to stupidity.

All of this nonsense talk, I called up my pro-shop man and ordered a Dimension.  I'll have the first one once he gets them
