Just bought a used (single drill) Special Agent for $10 from a guy on Craigslist.  The coverstock is in great shape; the guy said it's recently been  reconditioned & resurfaced.  My question/concern is regarding the finger holes.  The spacing (on the surface) is about 1/4"-3/8" between the two, but it appears the ring finger hole was drilled at a slight angle.   It's drilled for fingertip grips but they've been removed, so deeper in the ball there is a hole between the two finger holes.  Is this something to be worried about?  I need to have the ball plugged and redrilled anyway simply because the spacing is a little big for my hand and I was thinking I could just plug and redrill the thumb hole.  But I'm wondering (with the hole between the finger holes) if I shouldn't have them plugged and redrilled also.

Is the hole from the pitches running together at the bottom of the finger holes?

Yes, near the bottom.  There's the coverstock layer, then the whitish gray layer then what I assume is the core.  The hole between the finger holes is in the whitish gray a little above the core.  Hope that makes sense.....

At one time, I had the finger hole angles such that all my balls had that hole. That was over a 3 year period (maybe 30 balls). None of them cracked; I still have most of them. That's not saying you couldn't be THE lucky one and have that bridge shatter the fist time you threw the ball, but based on my experience, it shouldn't happen. (I would never say "it won't happen." No one can guarantee anything with drilled balls these days.)

Definitely get it plugged.  it appears from your description, the pitches were going in together which is not good IMHO.

It's like your house being built above a possible sink hole, which we had just north of me at the Corvette museum in Bowling Green, KY! It creates a weak area and as charlest said, it may or may not break or cave in. I agree with Track_Fanatic and get it plugged! Just my $.02, Bruce

Thanks for the replies.  I was thinking the same thing regarding it (the hole) being a weak spot.  Better to be safe than sorry, so I will definitely get the finger holes plugged.

depending on how deep they are drilled, you might be able to plug to just deep enough for your finger tips and use the original drilled holes if the span is good.

Okay, when I posted earlier I didn't have the ball with me, so here are a couple of corrections from earlier posts.

The hole (between the two finger holes) is actually in what I guess is the core of the ball.  It's in the reddish brown layer after the whitish gray layer.

The hole starts at a depth of about 2 1/4 inches, which is the depth of the middle finger hole, and goes up to just about where the whitish layer begins.

The other odd thing (to me anyway) is that the ring finger hole is drilled to a depth of 2 3/4 inches.  About a 1/2 inch deeper.....     

Don't know if any of this makes sense or matters, but that's where the hole is at.  And BTW, I did guess pretty accurate as to the spacing of the finger holes at the surface.  A 1/4 inch exactly.

Sounds like they drilled the fingers deeper than normal to get weight removed. Mine were just the depth of the inserts I use. If yours were that deep AND you didn't need to remove the top weight, then I'd get them plugged and re-drilled, IF plugging doesn't bother you. (It does bother some people, a lot.)

Setting aside the current finger holes meeting at the bottom, you should at minimal pitch plug and redrill the fingers to match your current span and pitches anyway. Different finger pitches can make the ball come off your hand in different ways.

Quick update;  Had the ball plugged and redrilled and the coverstock sanded back to OOB finish.  Threw it for the first time yesterday in open play and loved it.  I think the driller did a great job as the ball feels very good/natural coming off my hand.  Used it for three of the five games  we bowled and threw a 190, 194 & a 224.  League starts this Thursday....  Can't wait to see what happens then.

As a side note, I was kinda surprised with how this ball reacts.  I was expecting a much different reaction compared to my HyRoad Pearl due to the difference in coverstock/finishes, but as it turns out, they seem to be very similar.  Only difference is, with the Special Agent if I make a mistake and get the ball too far outside, it manages to come back, whereas the HyRoad just stays outside.
