Title: drilling into pin
Post by: scothomas on February 23, 2009, 06:36:41 AM: i've been told it is okay to PARTIALLY drill into a pin on new storm stuff, can anyone on here confirm this? I thought it always best to completely drill out a pin to avoid cracking issues.

Post by: themagician on February 23, 2009, 03:03:58 PM: There is no exception to the rule you mentioned, as far as I know it is never safe to partially drill into any pin, its either drill it all or don't drill it at all.

If you drill out the pin, also make sure that you "catch" it with the drill bit all the way through the coverstock shell, so that there are no weak spots or potential tension areas which could react differently to pressure. Drilling out a pin only partially is IMHO pretty risky for the overall ball integrity.

Post by: Moon57 on February 24, 2009, 05:00:01 AM: If you really need to drill into the pin you could always drill it out with, say a 1" drill, plug the hole and then drill your layout.

Post by: lbss831 on February 26, 2009, 08:30:17 AM: I think different. Ive had several balls with pin drilled all the way and sum half way pending on what my driller was doing with layout and i have never had a problem with cracking or any ball motion issues

Post by: cruss2007 on February 26, 2009, 08:43:07 AM: i too have never had an issue i think it is a bad idea to do it on a brunswick ball because unlike other companies the pin cap only goes down in the ball about a quarter of an inch i have had a ball that only when i was drilling the ball that the pin popped out. you will not sacrifice the integrity still as long as you pour plug where the pin was.

Post by: lbss831 on February 26, 2009, 01:01:20 PM: that is true had that happen to my absolute inferno and all my driller did was fill it with quick plug and it was good as new but didnt effect the performance of ball at all.
