I had to use a pilot hole down from the 1 1/8th and ease it in... or else I'd have a hole more crooked than George W.

Ouch... wonder how much duller your bit is now.  The black core material in my Vertigo reminds me of iron filings almost.  Makes me wonder if the USBC's decision to change the no metal rule to a maximum density rules has allowed the return of some nasty core filler materials.  

Nick, isn't the core in the OI rather hard as well?  Maybe the bit that was being used when the driller was punching holes in it was dull.

I know the Core Power LRG had a very low density filler between the core and coverstock.  That was a crooked thumbhole until I decided to get it slugged.

I only had problems on some of the AI's, not the original batches of OI's.

Never this bad though!

Nick, were you possibly drilling into the division between the two densities in the inner portion of the core?  The difference in denisties would be enough to push the bit into the softer portion of the core and cause the chattering.

Seems like there was a chunk of really dense material that resembled a rock. I was clipping it pretty bad.
