paradigm surface prep?
« on: December 18, 2006, 05:08:12 AM »
i need a little help, i just purchased a new paradigm and have rolled it about 20 games. from what i can tell it is very over under for me. i bowl on gaurdian overlay, with a typically heavy house shot. for the record the ball is drill with the pin 3 3/8" pin to pap, cg 2" to pap, with the rad in the strong position. i left the surface box 15oo grit. so what gives, should i change the surface? i generally wanted this to be a piece for heavier patterns, but the way it sits it is really skiddy in the oil, and extreme left turn off the dry. i thought that putting the pin 3 3/8 from my pap would take some of the length out and make it smoother, boy was i wrong. p.s. my pap is 3 1/2 over by 1/2 down. any help on which way to go would b appreciated! p.s.s. there is no extra hole punched yet! anyone else have this problem with the paradigm?

I believe the ball comes at 1500 shined, which is a very long and snappy surface.  Take the ball to 500 abralon, then to 1000 abralon.  This will get it to read the lane sooner, but me much smoother and better suited for hevier conditions.

I think a large part of the problem is your layout and I'm not sure just changing the surface will help you much. I'm guessing from the PAP number posted in you're profile that you have a lower track, which compounds the issue.   Usually 3 3/8 from the PAP is the snappiest layout rather than the smoothest.   You probably should of gone with a longer pin to PAP distance with the RAD in one of the weaker positions in order to make it smoother.  Couple that with the lane surface you're bowling on and you have a recipe for exactly what you're seeing.   Maybe if you add some surface to it (1000-grit abralon) it might smooth out enough, but I don't know for sure.
