Tropical Heat
« on: April 01, 2010, 02:13:29 PM »
Buddies has these listed for a late April release. One is listed with a Reactor Hybrid cover (Black/Silver), while the other two have the same cover as the Tropical Storms, Reactor Pearl. All three have the Turbine core as opposed to the modified 3-piece that the Storms have. Are these replacing the Storms (I tend to doubt it since Buddies also has a new yellow/purple Storm about to become available)? Maybe Storm felt that there was too big of a gap between the Fast and the Storms and the Heats fill that gap? That would be my guess....

Curious what those in the know, know

The Tropical Heats use the same core as the Fast, Furious and Natural. I do not know their intention with this line....are they ADDING to the success of the current 3 or are they replacing it?

I think the Reactor solid and pearl covers were the covers used when the Turbine was used in the Street Rods.

This cover/core combination (at least the pearl) was used in the street rod pearl.  Essentially what we have here is a couple different color street rod pearls and a hybrid cover street rod.  Not necessarily a bad thing as the street rods were very good, but not really innovative. If you can find a street rod on clearance, it might be cheaper than getting one of these "new" ones (unless, of course you're interested in the hybrid which should provide a little different reaction).

I threw the Orange/Purple today at a Storm / Roto demo day today.  Had I not already planned on getting the Dark Star, I may have walked out with this.  I did not get a chance to throw the Hybrid version of this ball, but the guys that did were saying the really liked it.

Threw these yesterday at a Storm/Roto Demo day, and all i can say is wow. The hybrid hits like a truck, the other two are a little tamer. All the ones I got my hands on were Pin above the bridge with a neutral drilling. I went ahead and ordered one and when it comes in I am going to have it laid out almost the same way.

A welcome and needed move - glad to see Storm filling out the bottom end of the lineup - I have most/all of my stronger Storm/Roto Grip balls in the closet, not in the bag - this has been the year in leagues where my milder stuff has matched up better.

+1 here.  I''m gonna be in the market for a new ball once leagues pay out in a few weeks.  This may be what I''m looking for.

+2 for me. There is one house I bowl league in that uses a low volume and my best look is with the hyroad, nomad,& reign. I would be interested in the tropical heat that is hybrid. Columbia is selling the hell out of the freezes and I am sure this is why this line of balls is entering the market.

I will be getting one to sit inbetween my Dark Star and Natural.  Likely the hybrid.
