Title: Factory Prep on T-Road Pearl
Post by: backupball on December 30, 2007, 02:01:58 PM
I looked on the Storm website for this but couldn't find it, all it says is "1500 Polished". Does anyone know how they prepare the surface before they apply the polish? I want to get the surface as close as original to what it was out of the box. TIA

I would say e-mail Storm and ask them how they prepped the ball before polishing it. They responded to a lot of my random questions (particle load percentages of stuff) and did it FAST. But if I had to answer your question, I would say they probably wet sanded it to something low at first, say 500, then wet sanded it again to 1500, and then threw the polish on.

I have never had any luck getting a storm ball back to their "1500 Polished" even by following their instructions via Email.

It has been my experience, if it says 1500 polished, leave it alone and dont change the surface unless you hate the factory surface that much. IT will never act even close to the same again.

I use Reacta Shine.  That is what Storm recommends to clean and polish to 1500 grit.

I resurface to 1500 all the time.

use 500 abralon (wet) using either the 4 side or 6 side method
use 1000 abralon (wet) using either the 4 side or 6 side method
use Reacta Shine using either the 4 side or 6 side method

It will be darn close to box 1500 after that

I was wondering if you utilized their Pro Finish Step Two compound if that would get it back to original?

I just hit mine out of the box before the press with a 2000 pad and then used Powerhouse Factory Finish on top, a little shinier than 1500 polished, but still not TOO much of a difference, and much easier to repeat in our shop as we don't carry Storm polishes.
