Fear Factor questions
« on: September 25, 2004, 08:10:22 AM »
I've got a used FF heading my may via a trade and I'm wondering how I should lay it out. Here is what I currently have in my arsenal:

Uranium Solid
Anomaly (Polished)
Thing
Thing Returns
Target Zone

Obviously, I want the FF to be my heavy oil ball. I'm a tweener with above average speed and a very high track. I'm looking to use this ball when the Uranium Solid won't be able to cut through the sauce, which shouldn't be too often. What layout do you guys think would work best for my style and these conditions? I know what the drill sheets say, but I don't know how much natural length this thing gets or anything, so I don't know how aggressive I need to go with the drilling. Ideally, the ball would get through the heads a little bit, rev strong in the mid and provide a smooth, controlled, continuous move through the backend. Any help that you guys can give to help me accomplish this will be appreciated.

Gene--Sure looks like everything you have is a hooker.  Why not have your pro shop guy suggest a layout that will work for you?  He knows your game better than a net geek bowling guru....yes???  If not I'd find a new fitter/driller.  JMO.

Scott,

I undestand how it would look that way, but these balls actually make up a fairly diverse arsenal for me. I throw with a good amount of speed, so with the different coverstock preps and drillings I cover the spectrum of conditions with them. Anyhow, my driller will be able to suggest drillings, and I will go with that. I just wanted to hear some reports from people who have thrown the ball so that I can have a better understanding of what to expect.

Understand Gene.  Then, I'd really go to a Storm expert about this ball not a run of the mill net geek guru.

I use a lot of DT and ask players like Jim Ensminger, Phillip Marlowe, the "guys" about DT equipment.  Too many "supposed" all knowers really know nothing.  JMO.

In the end, I've gotten a bit of good information from BR but it really comes down to my pro shop guy and me.  He knows how I roll it, speed, etc.  People here really know nothing about your game Gene.....unless they're from your local area.

Scott,

I see where you're coming from, but I've actually gotten a lot of great advice on here over the years. Sure, the overall quality of this site has gone down in the last year or so, but there are still some very good posters who have a lot of info to offer. Still, you're right about my driller knowing me best of all. Usually, I just bring him a ball, tell him what I want it to do and set him loose. He's very good at what he does, and he's never steered me wrong. I guess the main reason why I put the questions out there is because I haven't really thrown much Storm, so I was hoping to hear from some people who use their gear more than I do. I've tossed a few theirs, but nothing in quite a while. I know a great deal more about Lane 1, Hammer, DT and Visionary than I do about anything else, so I just wanted some feedback. It seems that we are going over a mute point anyhow, as nobody seems to have anything to say. Thanks for the suggestions anyhow.

Gene--Good luck.

For what's it worth.....I've never thrown a FF but I've seen a few mostly lefties use them.  Sure looks like they burn easily when not used on a lot of head oil.  I'd bet it's a lot like a Visionary Midnight Scorcher....not the cover mind you but the kind of lane condition it would match up with.
