Fired Up Replacement
« on: October 12, 2009, 10:50:07 AM »
I was wondering if any storm fans had any ideas what I could use to replace a fired up original that has finally died a death? Its drilled with the pin about an inch up and to the right of the ring finger, any suggestions on what Storm ball I could use to replace it would be great

In Storm's current line, I think you're best bet is the Reign.

It depends, really.  If you want something that is similar but maybe a tad stronger, the Reign is the way to go.  However, if you want something similar but may be a tad weaker, then the Fast may be the way to go.  Either way, you cant go wrong.

Try the Rapid Fire...I believe it's discontinued but you might be able to find one out there.

The Reign is the closest match you're going to find in the current lineup I believe, having the same basic reaction shape, but being a little better at handling oil.  It should be a little cleaner through the front and sronger in the back than anything else on medium conditions, and it is absolutely perfect for playing deeper inside angles.  There's a reason it has the same basic color scheme as the Fired Up and the old Fire Storm.

Another 15# NIB Fired Up?  Local shop had one last I knew. It has wonky stats, but it's a Fired Up... (4 Oz. TW, 4.5-5" pin)

Have to agree that the Reign and Fast are what you're needing to look at.

Storm designed the Reign as an updated replacement for the Fired Up.

Wow.. Awesome specs.. I'd love to punch that one up..

I don't understand why people are scared of long pin balls.. You have so many options with these balls..
And they are even better for when you have interchangeable thumb inserts..

The Reign without question. This ball is basically the Fired Up all over again.

Well SKC I think the reason for the "long pin a phobia" stems from a lot of psychological issues with weightholes. I still have plenty of guys that I drill for who do not want a weighthole in a ball for any reason. Call them purists or whatever but they are convinced that they "cant" use a ball with a weighthole.

With long pins and normal top weight traditional layouts require holes.

Also imagine, if you will, trying to drill a 5" pin ball with 4 oz of top using a pin under ring layout.....not gonna happen. Again many guys like to get balls that have some versatility and the 4-5" balls are somewhat limited by traditional dogma, just as 0-1 pin balls are.

Those of us who are versed in ball drilling techniques newer than 1980 realize that there are plenty of good things that can be done with those balls cast off by others as unacceptable.

The batch of blem Jigsaws I got have the cg's kicked out of line...big deal? they can be worked with and drilled quite effectively. ALl you have to do is think about it a bit and you can save your customers some cash and make more for yourself...if a Ford dealer offered you a 2010 Mustang GT for the price of a Focus would you take it even if the Mustang had mismatched tires? Same idea.....
