A Stormin Month It Was For Me
« on: January 03, 2008, 04:44:53 AM »
Had my ole favorite Storm resurfaced after a frustrating first 3 month of league play in which I flat out struggled after a 3 year layoff. It felt like I was getting my timing down after the layoff, but the ball was flat out just not making the needed turn it had in the past to get the job done. Of course I started looking for a new ball, but once I found out my driller had left the state, I was a bit lost. So I could not take it anymore and gave in to having someone touch this ball since I could not break 600 to save my life, and even 500 in a stretch.

I do not have the details of what this person did to my ball grit and polish wise, but the ball looked awesome when it was done. I know it was on a machine that had 3 round pads on it and I know he used Step 1 and Step 2 of some Storm products and that's all I know for now. I asked for the factory finish of 1500.

Well, first week out with it, I finally go over 600 with a 608, then I follow that up with a 683. Ok, so nothing special but a huge improvement comapred to what it was before. The ball was moving, and I was putting more XXX's up on the board but the spare shot was still weak.

The next week, I go 276, 275, and 194 for my second highest series in my life by only one pin (745) I had 22 strikes out of 26 frames at one point. The front 7 in game two.

Then last night I go 230, 216, and 278 with the front 9 in game 3 for a 724 and back to back 700+ series. I had two other 700's in my life up till two weeks ago! This gave me a 230 average over the past 4 weeks, which my league average before the refinishing was 175. I did average about 194 in the years prior so I was down quite a bit this year as the 175 showed.

Granted I did make a few more changes to also help this jump start surge.
1) I started to get back into this site as I did in the past. (Love all the knowleadge guys and gals)
2) Turbo tape on both sides of my thumb
3) Watching video's of pro's
4) I changed out some old finger grips and it was a huge difference. So I suggest all to replace grips often just like golf clubs.

Thanks to Storm for making such a great product even if it is 5 years old!

Good call.  My dad still throws his old X-Factor.  It covers more boards than any other ball he's ever thrown, and it still hits hard when he can actually get it to face up to the pocket (he's afraid to swing it and has a bad habit of tugging shots and stay up the back of the ball too much).
