First Storm / Roto arsenal ...opinions
« on: October 07, 2014, 02:55:27 PM »
I finally came off some cash and rebuilt my ball arsenal using all Storm.

I got the following:
Marvel-S
Optimus
Hyroad hybrid
Wrecker
Pitch Black

I bowl only in sport / challenge leagues.  I may sub in beer leagues here and there.

I think I got everything covered arsenal wise with the exception of a smooth weak solid.  Any advice from Storm nation would be appreciated.  I've used Brunswick since 2000 and just switched and could not be happier.

I have a Roto Grip Shout that is pretty smooth, but it is a little stronger than I expected, although most likely weaker than the balls you've already listed.

You may want to consider adding another pearl to fit below your Optimus, perhaps a Punch Out or Uproar

I have tended to stay on the Storm side more than Roto even though I know Roto makes some great stuff too. My first incling would be to have you go with an IQ Tour
Solid. It would be earlier and smoother than your Hyroad. You could also consider adding some surface to the Hyroad to make it earlier and smoother. I did that to a Hyroad when I was bowling two-handed, and I loved the smooth, strong motion I saw throughout the lane. There's also the Hyroad Solid, which definitely fits the bill of being smooth and that could easily be a weaker peace with surface adjustment and/or long pin-to-PAP layouts.

Additionally, since the Marvel-S is an early, rolly piece, at some point you may want to consider adding something like a Crux or Zero Gravity for when you want a little more push and downlane motion on heavier patterns. From what I've seen, the Crux never stops hooking if there's oil to keep it going. Just a thought down the road.

Overall it's a solid arsenal.  However, adding an IQ Tour Solid would help immensely.  The IQ Tour Solid is the quintessential benchmark ball for flatter conditions.

i would also look at a stronger assymetric core like a totally defiant for when you need recovery on a short time like long patterns and when you need to get in the soup on medium patterns like game 2-3.

i like the shout for the weaker solid. depending on your game i could see a pin in palm layout working well

I think a Sinister fits the bill for what you describe, that ball is absurd.

It sounds like an IQ tour solid is the deal.  Would this fit in the middle of my arsenal?

IQ Tour solid will be right around the Optimus to slightly below it and above the Hyroad.

Wipeout would be good also.  It's like a weaker iq solid.
