Air Bubbles inside ball?

Hello all, I bought my wife an x factor ace for christmas and took it to get it drilled today. When he drilled the thumb hole there was a small open area underneath it about 1/8 inch that looked like a small air pocket that had gotten trapped when the ball was poured. My question is will this hurt the ball? If the set up on the ball had been different we might not have never known. He suggested possibly plugging the thumb hole and that should fill in the area. What are your guys thoughts. I could return it but I bought it off ebay and don't want to go through the hassle unless absolutely necessary. If it is a small air pocket and is filled it shouldn't it be alright or am I just hoping. Let me know what you think.

On my dads Barb Wire thers the same thing at the bottom of his thumb hoel that i noticed when i was cleaning it!

I todl him he shoudl show the shop and ask for a replacement or something, but hes just like"no its alright"

I have seen a lot of this lately...in fact I just drilled a Track Rule that had a void around the top of the core.

I think they are pouring the balls too fast, trying to get more production. Whenever this happens you get more defects and if they go unnoticed, we get them as firsts.

If it affects the ball I am sure Storm will stand behind it...they have never done me wrong yet.

I have a Depth Charge, a Triple X and a Triple X extreme and I have not seen that on mine. However, this is not uncommon on Lane 1 balls. Four of the five Lane 1 balls I bought had this hollow spot below the ring finger hole when it was drilled. however, it never did cause any problems.

DWilliamson, I can see where you are coming from, but I am speaking the gospel truth. If you will go back and read my post again, you will see where I said "this is not uncommon on Lane 1 balls". Translated that means it happens on more than a few balls. I have talked to others that have Lane 1 balls and they have seen this also and said not to worry about it, which is what I said. Which finger it is, depends on the layout of the ball. On mine, it was the ring finger because the Pin was located in that vicinity and that is where the hollow spot generally shows up according to other users that I have talked to. When I got my first Lane 1 ball (Blueberry), I ordered it drilled with me putting in the finger grips. When I went to install the grips, I saw the hole. I called Doug Sterner and he said this happens in that exact location on Lane 1 balls, and that it has never caused any problems....and as I said in my post if you will reread that part too, I said "it never did cause any problems."

Sorry, looks like you will have to keep wasting your money and continue to pick your own lottery numbers.

I have also found bubbles inside a Storm Trauma, unfortunately on the inside of my thumb hole, size of a bean and just in the place where I use to grip the ball. Not nice for handling. In the first place I filled the hole with nitro filling compound used for car bodies, which is a great stuff for this occasion, and flattened it with wet sandpaper and a white pad. Works great.

A friend of mine found a similar bubble in another Storm ball, inside of an X-hole. I am not sure if this is a common Storm occurence?

I do not think that bubbles in the core material pose a problem, since they do not hamper stability, ball integrity or weight distribution. But it is annoying and can be a real problem like in my case, when it hampers you handling the ball properly.

Have seen it in many companies balls. Not core but the density fillers. Main problem we have seen is when manufacturer has a new release or multi-density. Multi-density will cure at the same rates. We had 4-5 ultra hots a few years ago with a lot of inner bubbles. It was scary feeling when drilling as you would get a slight jumping action when you hit a void.

Suggestion - if you find the holes in the fingers or thumb, use grips or a slug. Fingers CAN be slugged - and that'll fix the problem.

I have never seen this problem, but a buddy of mine has the air bubble holes on the surface of his classic zone.

Since I manage a Pro Shop, I tell my custumers that any ball not purchased through me, that I am not responsible for any defects. I also would not plug as I feel if you should not have to repair a new product. You don't accept a new car with a dent or scratch, why would you accept a ball with an air pocket. I would recommend a slug over going through hassel of returning though.

I slug the thumb and use finger grips, (just as Mumzie suggests) so this wasn't a problem for me nor did it effect the balls durability and quality. The holes/air pockets aren't that big to begin with. At least not in Lane 1 balls. They run from the size if a Pinto Bean up to the size of a small Lima Bean.
