Looking for an idea
« on: October 18, 2011, 08:36:57 AM »
I bowl a league on Sunday.  4 game set.  Inside is drenched, but can play down and in with a ton of hand and get some play.  Problem is there's bowlers playing outside of my line and urethane right through my line.  By the third and fouth game carry down is nasty. I always start with my Anarchy (pin up) and have real good success.  When they start to carry down, I've tried my Nano, but by then the fronts don't have enough oil and it burns up before ever having a chance.

So, now to my question.  Instead of throwing some polish on my Nano, do you think going with a Nano Pearl, pin down, will make a big enough difference to have some area in the 3rd and 4th game?  As of now, all my equipment is drilled pin up.  I don't know my specs exaclty, but I would venture to guess 17 mph with 400+ rmp.  I was thinking of going to a weeker solid, like a VR Solid or 2Furious, but would rather have a pearl than a solid.  I also throw my VE but it still slides and doesn't make a strong enough move.

Any thoughts would be great!

Balls in the bag and order they come out:
#1/2 Nano and Anarchy #3- Virtual Energy   #4- Gravity Shift #5- Big Hit (spare and really dry)
#6- Teal Rhino Pro (oldie but a goodie)

How about a Frantic, lightly sanded, say 4k, no polish, or a Shining Star/Rising Star?

Will the Frantic be strong enough to battle the carry down?  Isn't it weaker than my Anarchy?

If you sand the Anarchy, that would work, but it sounds like you are using it polished, with success, correct? Carrydown comes from someplace, that's the fronts. So you need something that will retain some energy through the fronts, and still bite on the back. I fear if you drill a Nano Pearl, pin down, it will burn up before it reaches the back. I would try something with a little higher RG, and a light surface to bite in the back.

My Anarchy is sanded at 500, then I hit it with Brunswick's Rough-Buff and it rolls like it did out of the box.  What about hitting my VE with 2000 or 4000?

I would defiinitely try light surface on the VE. Your Anarchy is pretty rough. Don't forget, there are 2 factors you are dealing with, loss of oil in the fronts as well as a some oil on the back. If that doesn't work, I would definitely try something with medium RG, perhaps a lightly sanded hybrid.

I'll hit my VE before I go on Sunday with 2000 lightly and see what happens. Can't hurt.

The reason my Anarchy is at 500 is that from talking to few people before buying a spinner, they warned me that using what the factory recommends is completely different based on the speed of the spinner.  They suggested 500 first then polish for all pearls and hybrids.  They have been using a spinner for years and found that when the went to 2000 or so and polished, it was like bowling with plastic.  My Anarchy looks shined and rolls great.

I saw your from Jersey.  North? Central? South?

Storm just revised their procedure for 1500 polished. Now they say 500, 1000, 2000 4000 then Step 2 polish.

Ok I'm up north in Rockaway.  I saw that storm updated it on here a few weeks ago.  I don't know if I would trust taking it all the way to 4000 then polish on a personal spinner.  Maybe a high speed spinner in a shop.  The rough buff is probably like the step 2.  Not sure of the grit though.

Step 2 is only slightly less rough than Rough Buff., that's why it works. Personally, I usually use 1k abralon, then go to Powerhouse Factory finish for the final step when I want to get close to factory

I bought the factory finish and it just added too much lenght.  I had just gotten the spinner and gave it a shot.  Ended up shootin a 288 in practice, but they just didn't bite like they should have.  Then I tried the Storm Reacta Shine and again didn't like it.  Got a small bottle of the rough buff and that's what i've used since.

Rough Buff is about 800 grit, unless you spend a long time with water, smoothing it out.
