Friend having Virtual Gravity problems
« on: January 12, 2009, 11:16:38 PM »
He got it drilled up with the pin under the middle finger and the key about 2 1/2' right of the thumb. The surface was left in box condition. From what he told me tonight the ball just isnt turning the corner and just seems to be rolling early and burning up. Would a surface change be the first thing to try? Maybe to 4000 Abralon or some gloss polish?

Well box condition is 4000 ab.  He needs to ride the oil line up front more, maybe.  Otherwise, polish or less hand.  Maybe his alley is too dry to use it on.  Was it practice or league play?  Sometimes, at least for me, it takes a couple times throwing a new ball to figure out the quirks.  I know I didn't feel comfortable the 1st few times throwing it.  I finally used it for a full league game the other night & it was killing.  I keep falling back to my regular Shift though for some reason.  This week I'm ice fishing, but next week I'll throw it more games & trust it.

That drilling is going to do exactly that unless he has lots of hand and can control his speed. Even then he will probably have to change the surface a bit. I had a bounty drilled the exact same way, and a Maxx Zone similar, and it wouldn't do anyting except in flooded conditions, which is not what most of us see daily. Try it at 4000 first, then if not put polish on it. If he doesn't care about plugging, I would probably have it redrilled with a pin over drilling or at least a pin under and right of the ring finger.

He's gonna throw it on a fresh condition tomorrow night. If he was throwing it today on a similar shot to what i was practicing on tonight its a mystery coz my Machine and Robo Rule at 4000 Abralon sure weren't going straight

I am speed dominant and don't have much hand.  I have a very similar drill on my Cell (which puts the pin around 5.5 inches from my PAP, also under the middle finger), and it's a very useful layout for me on certain conditions.  It loves oil when I keep some surface on it and is very smooth and controllable on flatter, difficult oil patterns.  However, it's also fantastic with some polish on it -- it gives me a very smooth arc on the backend for medium to medium-heavy conditions.  This is great for when pearls are too squirty, but anything stronger is leaving 10 pins.

Basically, it's a very condition-specific drill.  If he plans on using this ball only on a flood, that's fine.  (And that may not be a bad idea, since the Virtual Gravity is SO strong to begin with)  Otherwise, you might try taking a 2000 abralon pad to it and then applying polish to see how it rolls.  But above all, don't forget to keep this ball in the oil as long as possible!!

I have a pin up VG at 4k burning up with polish better but still too early, ball wants to hook at my feet but is so strong it keeps hooking the whole lane.

Gives hand to the handless like me, Cell was somewhat like it until polish and now is a stellar ball. Cell is pin down 4 inch to pap strongest drilled ball I have, the mb to cg was so out of whack that the setup had to go like that. But with polish right on top of the box it became the oil eating ball that you all seem to love here.

My key is 1/2 right of my thumb ball still wants to check up early, going to try extender polish on it next set. One of the fastest rolling ball's I have ever seen but still has backend, crazy stuff going on with this ball.

I just got mine alst night. Mine is pin above bridge 5.5 from PAP and mB 4.5 from PAP, which puts my MB like 1.5 inches right of thumb. I threw 6 shots on a 40ft solid medium volume, clean backends shot. Played feet in front of gutter out to 8-5 board, all 6 struck with authority, so i was impressed with what i saw so far. nothing else I had with me would make it back from that angle, which included my Dimension, or cell pearl.

Will review more after a few games.
