Title: Gravity Shift

I have a friend who wanted to buy a Gravity Shift and we saw one in the pro shop. The Gravity Shift has a 4inch pin.
We talked to the pro shop owner, saying that we would like to have it drilled with layout 1 indicated in the drilling sheet. After taking my friends measurement and doing some marking on the ball, he said that it can't be done because the cg will end up about an inch below the thumb hole which is not too good but he didn't explain why.
My friend really wanted the ball so he listened to the proshop owner and have the ball drilled with layout 2 but pin about an inch above his ring finger.
He bowled with the ball for about 2 games and find that it is going too long for his liking, sometimes missing the breakpoint. He was rather sad...this is the first time he try out a storm ball.
Sorry for such a long post...my question is it possible help my friend to reduce the length of travel of the ball ? And can anyone explain what the pro shop owner mention not to good to have the cg below the thumb hole ?

Try having the pro shop operator sand the ball with 4000 abralon.  If it still goes too long, try 2000 abralon.  The polished box finish can make it want to skid too much in oil, this should get it to roll a little earlier and a little smoother.

Unfortunately, I can't quite say why having a CG below the thumb is a bad thing.  But as for your friend's reaction, I would try to sand it with either a 4000 or 2000 Abralon pad.  I had the very same problem when I first got my Pyro, and hit it with a 2000 pad, and it is absolutely beautiful now.  Hope this helps, and good luck!

One possible reason it could be bad is if the ball had a lot of top weight it may have ended with too much thumb weight. I had a widow the owner wanted me to drill pin down and with the cg alongside the thumb hole it would have had 3 oz thumb weight.

Having the CG below the thumb will create too much bottom weight in the ball thus needing a super huge balance hole in the lower quadrant.  That's the reason the pro shop guy said it's probably best to use a pin up layout with that particular ball.

If the ball's going too long then adjust the cover to a lower grit.  The lower grit surface will get the ball to grab earlier.

Thanks all for the advice given...my friend have the Pro shop owner changed the surface to 2000 and he is loving the ball now...And now he intend to get the Attitude Shift for heavier stuff...any feedback about the Attitude Shift from any Storm bowlers ?

With the Attitude Shift t 2000 abralon or 1000 abralon, it will handle a good amount of oil. It's a pretty angular piece, so if your friend is looking for something smoother a Special Agent or T-Road Solid are both good choices. It really depends on what type of reaction shape he is looking for, but all three balls are good choices.

anyways I own(ed) the cell and the att. shift..
Cell is a way stronger ball. harder hitter and a stronger backend..
I gave my att shift away to my son after i got the cell and now my son wants to steal my cell when he sees it... tooo bad for him
