Gravity Shift at 1000 abralon
« on: January 23, 2009, 12:08:54 PM »
After struggling with my Gravity Shift on the carrydown (it would start skidding by the end of the first game), my pro shop took it down from 1500 polish (OOB) to 1000 abralon and all I can say is WOW.

At leagues the ball held the line and I bowled my highest game ever -- a 236.  When I got to the third game I started leaving ten pins playing the same line, so I pulled out my T-Road Pearl to see what kind of reaction I would get.  It was giving me an over/under, so I switched back to the Gravity Shift and it held the line firm.

I am a new bowler and this is my first experience playing around with coverstock.  Thanks to my pro shop (Lane 41 at Earl Anthony's in Dublin, CA) for helping me out!

Ditto what Necro said.  I may knock the polish off of mine, but I kinda like it the way it is.  Just want to experiment a little.

I've seen and heard a lot of good about the Gravity, I have a few friends that really enjoy the ball now that it has a track in it or has lightly been hit with a 4k abralon pad to knock the shine down a bit. They all say it hasn't lost any backend with the surface adjustment but the ball has become less sensitive to carrydown and seems to be more consistent.

I say its a very solid piece, i'd have picked one up used recently if it weren't for a slightly better deal on a pearl cell.

Makes we wonder what I can do with the cover on my T-Road Pearl.  I heard this cover doesn't take to adjustments as well.

Yes I agree knocking the polish off was the best thing still gets awesome length and still has enough flip to make it back from anywhere for me.

When he hit it with 1000 abralon, did he leave it dull or put polish on top of the 1000?

what i have noticed with the gravity shift is with a polished cover it can become a little suirty in carry down or longer patterns with speed.with the polish worn off or scuffed it becomes a monster nice continuous hook a little less overall than my virtual good go to ball when the virtual is just to much.imo

I like mine at 1000 polished. But, I have to put it up by the third game. Once oil dries and pushed down the head and mids, 10 pin city, with 4's 8's and 9's showing up unpredictably.

That was exactly my experience with it.  236 and 185 the first two games (lots of strikes and easy single-pin spares), and then nothing but 7s and 10 pins on the third game.  I might have him splash a little polish on it... what sort of difference could I expect?

Also, anybody played around with the cover on the T-Road Pearl?  I'd like to take it down a notch so it could handle a little more oil.

I think you should leave it as is. By the third game, if the oil has dryed up, you should switch to something weaker.

I usually use clean n sheen. It has a mild abrasive and I can keep the shine down.3m Perfect it II also      works good for me.

I knocked off the shine with the 1000 abralon and bowled last night in league (THS). The reaction was alot more controllable with less squirt and as long as I kept my speed up, I had a nice strong reaction. After the first two games I had to put it back in the bag. I would've shot better (218, 200) if I had a few hours more sleep the night before. I'm really glad I read this post and tried out the surface adjustment.
