Gravity Shift Surface Adjustment
« on: February 09, 2009, 06:45:49 AM »
Last night I sanded my gravity shift from 1000 to 4000 abralon and then used an old 2000 pad to finish it off, shoot for around 3000. I then polished the ball with 3m Finesse It II. Pretty ball.

Used it at during league and it showed promise. 187 first game with two open frames. 214 second game one open, 10 pin. Third game 235 clean and should have been higher---operator error.

Out of the three game set, I left only 3 10 pins and struck pretty much at will. Ball retained more energy playing down and in. I did not have to move the entire set although I did change my hand position slightly as the line dried up.

Gravity Shift at this finish shows much promise. At 1000 and polish, good for only one game, maybe half of the second game during 5 men league. Stay with it any longer and you are cursed with ten pins. With the 3000 and polished, I may be able to use it all three games with slight adjustments in hand position and moves inside if needed.

I have mine at 1000 Abralon... curious how 3000 polished would work, especially compared to OOB finish.

I have mine 1500 with no polish and I can play all 3 with it usually.

I have tried 100 and 1500. After the first game or so, I start leaving more 10 pins then normal. I have to chase the oil inside, because increase speed gets me to the pocket but the ball looses too much power.

At the 3000 with polish, the ball seems to retain more energy downlane and carry is better the second and third games.

On our house shot, there is no way to play the ball down and in all three games at 1000 abralon unless you move inside and hook the lane. I can do this but I score better playing down and in--my A game.

Ah that would explain it. I personally find this ball to really come alive when you move in deep.

If I have to play inside, the gravity shift is my choice. But I would rather play between 5 and 10 out to 4 or so. With our shot, this gives me more room and the ball will recover without overreacting. If I miss inside, it pushes but still has enough roll off the dry to carry. Of course, I stay behind the ball more than most. The ball is a beast playing this line, even at my ball speed.
