help finding a new ball!
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:53:12 PM »
I'm brand new to the forums so bare with me. I haven't bought a new ball in years but I am ready to get one now. I currently have and love the 'la nina bruiser". i throw a hard right handed ball and generally stand to the far right. I was wondering what is a similar ball to this one? i love the finish on it and it has done very good for me but I am ready to upgrade. Thanks for any feedback!

Need more info.  Do you have a small, medium or high revs?  Define your style more (are you up the back of the ball or do you tilt it a lot)?  What surface are you on, typically a lot of oil or dry?  The more info you provide the more some on here can make a SUGGESTION.  I'd recommend seeing a reputable pro shop with a knowledgeable operator and have him watch you a bit and come to a conclusion with him.  BUT, that being said, SUGGESTIONS can be made.

Thanks for the help, I would say medium revs, definately back of the ball not much tilt. and my league surfaces are usually medium to heavy oil

Before I mention anything, i'd like to reiterate seeing the reputable pro shop.

That being said, I too am a low tilt guy and usually find myself (on a house shot) usually right up 7-8 or moving in and playing a line say 13-8, moving left or right depending on volume of oil and my ball reaction.  I LOVE the Anaconda right now as a ball for true mediums, however it does need downlane friction to move.  For heavier stuff (a THS that's heavier) maybe a C300 Burst with some surface on it...All my stuff is drilled pin up as I need the ball to store energy.

A LOT of good stuff out right now.

JJ, I went through the archives at Storm & on here, the only mention of "bruiser" is in the La Nina review as part of the ball color, on this site.  The La Nina was part of the Master line & was a solid with "particle".. Looking at the current balls from Storm in the Master Line is the Marvel. I would look at that & maybe even down to the 2Furious... Those would be my 2 starting points.. If you could get to a Storm Demo Day, I'd highly recommend it.  There, you can test balls from all of their lines & see for yourself how they react on today's conditions..  I don't think a proshop will just let you drill up balls & test em on the lanes b4 purchasing...

I am liking my Reign a lot, & maybe looking at the Hybrid or Solid version of it.  Up until the Reign, I was mostly a Premier Line guy.. I loved my Shift & Attitude Shift...  Maybe you could buy 2 balls to replace your La Nina, LoL.
