Second Dimension
« on: April 05, 2009, 02:06:59 AM »
I've been looking at some people throwing the second dimension as of late, and it seems to be about the rolliest pearl that I've ever seen.  It does have a low rg. and high differential, but I don't think thats why it rolls the way that it does.  I've seen pearl stuff in the past with similar core numbers that pops off the spot.  I really think its that coverstock material and the high load of mica that keeps it rolling.

If this is the case, it seems as though they have come up with another way of making a "hybrid" coverstock.  In the hybrids, they limit the mica/pearl material so that it has more of the characteristics of the solid (i.e. lane grip/midlane reaction).  In the 2D they have increased the size of the mica particle, which also seems to enhance lane grip and midlane.  What are your thoughts?  If they made a dimension with a hybrid coverstock, how do you think it would roll with reference to the 2D?

I dont know what 2Ds your seeing thrown, or how there drilled. But mine is 5x4  and is absolutely sick on the backend.

Have to halfway agree with the BD here..The reason I love the 2D is because it doesn't give me the heavy roll that my Dimension does, not does it snap off the spot like my Gravity Shift. I have two second dimensions, one with a 5 inch to PAP and the other with a 1 inch pin to PAP.. Each one is smooth rolling just at different points on the lane.. the 5 inch pin gets down lane for me and is just very smooth on the back end for me.. the 1 inch pin reads early off my hand but once again no sharp movement off friction..

The 2D for me is a perfect fit between my gravity shift and dimension..

I'm not saying that the ball has no backend whatsoever, but that it's more of a controlled strong arc.  Its not so much the ammount of boards that something covers on the back, but how it covers those boards.

The lower rg core definately helps the ball read the midlane, but I don't think that its the major component based on the pearls I have seen in the past.  If you look at the Agent (Reactor cover, but even lower rg weight block) the ball tends to look a cleaner in the fronts and more angular on the back.

I see the same reaction that BD does.  It rolls earlier than any pearl that
I have ever seen.  It is a very strong arc though.  Something very different
than I have ever had before.  I don't know the reason or care.  It makes no
difference why.

Its just a question of interest, and something that may play a role in their future releases.  If they decide to go with a hybrid dimension next, without that same large mica particle, it may wind up looking quite similar to the 2D.  Moreover, they may find out that alterations in the mica size (2D) work better than alterations in the pearl/mica load (concept of Hybrid covers).

Shark pattern: the longest pattern. Lately the pros seem to be playing it from outside with low pin aggressive equipment and end over end low side rotation release this is after burning open a hole in the pattern around the 5 board. To do the job of burning a hole in the pattern you need an aggressive ball dulled to at least 320, keep in mind this is not the ball you will be playing the shot with, but also keep in mind you don't get a half hour of practice to burn a hole in the pattern like they do on tv so I would suggest a high pin aggressive ball with a high flare drilling and 500 abralon finish that you could use until the 5th frame or so, then change to the low pin 5 to 5 1/2 inch pin to pap aggressive ball with 2000 abralon finish to go the rest of the way.

I have a 2nd Dimension with a pretty aggressive drill and 2000 abralon surface that deals w/ the Shark just fine in my PBA Ex league
