Wet dry champ...The Duece!
« on: October 15, 2006, 03:34:40 PM »
My center is not really a wet dry...it is a dryish middle /bone dry sides with length to the spotty pattern!

I have been so pleased lately with a high pin Duece I have with the mb negative and also a new deuce I have with the pin over bridge and more surface..

They are just smooth and really seem to work on a shot I just have never had much luck on!

Today I also took out a Hot Rod Super Sport pearl that I've had some success with!  It was straight and then very strong at the back of the pattern probably the strongest ball I had today!  That reactor stuff is strong!

Where as I notice the Accutread on the duece is so smooth...and is only strong due to the strong core of the duece!  (I've had a Hot wire and it just couldn't strike on this shot)  core did not seem strong enough...though I could flush all day!

Pearls on the other hand in general are pretty jumpy on this shot.

Anyone know based on above what would be a good replacement for my Deuces which are bound to run out of gas....some day!

I have seen great comments about the Thunderstruck solid (methinks too strong)(reactor and a stronger core than the Supersport pearl)  And I"ve also seen nice comments about the Jolt which just looks like a slightly souped up Hot wire to me?  Accutread but is it enough core on this long shot?

Your thoughts?

Can't really say what would be close to a Deuce now, but I heard the solid Jolt is pretty close to one. All I can say is that the Deuce is my all time favorite ball though.

I never could get lined up right with the Deuce.  The cover seemed to tame for what I was expecting.

I got a new in box Deuce a little less than a year ago as a 'smooth' medium-heavy oil ball.  The cover never matched up with my house shot and it seemed to go longer than I wanted.  After trying a couple of cover tweeks I gave up on it.  2 months later I replaced it with a Vertigo and I'll never look back.

For some reason Storm only used the SFA (modified Accutread) on the Vertigo and the Trifecta - both of these balls are about as predictable as you can get.

The whole matching covers, cores, and conditions to a particular shot is a voodoo science to me.  Over the past 5 years I have liked certain Accutread, Monsoon, SFA, and Reactor balls and in the same breath I've hated balls with the same coverstocks.

To answer your question Lefty I replaced my Deuce with a Vertigo and I am happy with that change.  I have never thrown a Diablo but from what I've seen I would expect it to be a good Deuce replacement.  Also, from all indications a Dark Thunder would also fit in that space.  If you are looking for a solid with a stronger core I would expect Storm to release a solid reactive Agent within the next couple of months.

Not much of a Storm guy....

but wouldn't the Passion fit that bill???  If you are not stuck with Storm...if you can find a WOW Pearl by columbia that would do the trick....really one of the smoothest balls I have ever owned and used that quite a bit on conditions very similiar..

I have seen the Thunderstuck thrown by David Haynes and it was strong but a bit jumpy...possibly a surfuce adjustment may help??

Another suggestion.....Hammer Hawg Wild...another silly smooth ball that doesn't overreact on the dry stuff...as long as there is a little head oil for it...

INteresting ideas there!

I have a Wow pearl...surprisingly works on some local "real" wet dry patterns.
I say "real" because the others have the same pavement type feel to the outside with no buff as our house but they have actual oil to the inside!

Our center is a wet dry that is mostly dry in the middle too and then pavement outside!  The Wow pearl just doesn't seem to get down the lane as good...most days.  A good ball for me some places and damn ugly...I don't like to be seen with it though I have had some high scores with it!

ALSO>..I agree I think the Diablo I have seen have looked good there also...like the deuce.  Don't know if I can be seen with that ugly thing either!  Balls that are sort of this brown/orange scheme I call balls that look like Poo roll like butter!  I like both of the brown yuch lookin balls from above but have a tendancy to stop using them on the first tap...just cause of looks....

I've also seen the Screamin Banshee look good on this house...that's not terrible lookin?

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS...I have seen the Hammer Hawg wild look great in this house!  Not quite as ugly!
PS anyone think the jinx solid  = Hijinnxcould be a fit?

Lucky,

It is funny as a third ball I was going to mention is another oldie....The Crunch...It seems that all the ugly looking balls (orangish type) seem to work really well on the uglies....lol..

One that I forgot to mention is the Roto Grip Saturn.  Very eye pleasing ball and think you would find it to fit in there. If the Wow Pearl was a little to early and too much then the Saturn may be the bet. I have one and it is such a smooth ball for me....

Thanks SR!

I like the ideas...along the lines of the Saturn....my Sonic X solid...almost fits the bill...Saturn may be just the ticket!
