Is there much difference between the Hit Pearl and the Orange Flame?

I know the Orange Flame has the Curelyon cover and the Hit has the Pro-Glide... but what's the difference in these 2 coverstock's? I thought that the Curelyon was stronger, but now I'm not so sure?

And I originally thought that the Big Hit Pearl (Pro-Glide) and the Blue Hot Flame (Curelyon) would be similar to each other... but I get a good bit more hook out of the Big Hit Pearl than I do out of the Blue Hot Flame. So I'm wondering if that's an indication that maybe the Pro-Glide coverstock is stronger than the Curelyon? If that is the case, then would that mean that the Hit Pearl would be stronger than the Orange Flame?

Is there anybody out there having success with one of the Hit Pearl's?

Hi there,

I have a Hit Red Pearl and I have to say I don't get on with this ball. I got it for short oil and extreme dry lanes after seeing Jason Belmonte use it well in such conditions, but its not the ball for me. The RG is too high and the ball just tumbles down the lane really.

As for the cover, its weaker than Curyelon, definately. Ive got an original Hot Rod and Barbed Wire (also pro-glide) and the Hot Rod is a much stronger ball. Not sure how much of this is core related, but I think they are reasonably similar numbers internally (Barbed wire slightly higher diff, same RG).

Hope this helps. I personally wouldn't go for a Hit. Depending how you throw the ball, I would recommend one with slightly lower RG, such as the Barbed Wire or Big Hit..

I've already tried the Big Hit Pearl and it's too much ball on this shot. I'm needing something along the lines of a Hit pearl or Orange Flame.

I have access to an Orange Flame but am wondering which is better and also what's the difference between the Orange Flame and the Hit Pearl?

Have you tried emailing Storm? I asked them the difference (aggressiveness) between the two covers and received an answer after a day or two. Unfortunately, I forget what they said.

I saved the email, but it's on my other computer 700 miles away. If you can't find an answer soon, remind me again and I'll look the next time I'm there.

The Orange Flame will be more "reactive " than the Hit. The Flame had a Reactafleck (sp) cover that was IMO a fore rummer of the particle ball, kinda. It had "flecks" added to grip more than most reactive balls (Storm's) but less than a med load particle. So, given that, I'd say the Hit will be a weaker cover and more to the kind of ball , if I understand what you are looking for, than the Orange Flame.

The Pro Glide is the 'mildest' cover they have (reactive) and the Curelyon is a step up from the Pro Glide. The Blue Hot (flame logo) was another 'fleck' cover, if that's the one you are talking about.

No way the flame will be weak enough, if a big hit is too much ball for the condition, you are going to have to look at something else. Even the hit is not much weaker than the big hit, its just supposedly it doesn't hit as well (I don't buy into that, I LOVE my purple pearl hit, it really hits!)

What I would do is if you want to weaken the ball without increasing the backend (I used to do this on another ball that I used exclusively for dry, now my hit I put in the lustre king for 5 minutes every few months to kill the backend) is to first sand the ball to 2000, apply a few coats at different intervals of control it/clean n' polish, I would say 3, and then put the ball in the lustre king for the full cycle.

What the compound in the lustre king does is gives the ball more length without increasing the backend reaction, essentially killing the backend. I found this works much better than going with pearl urethane, as urethane has a tendency to grab too early and still not hit as well as this killed reactive. Many are afraid of the lustre king because the machine looks ancient, but it should be an experimentation tool for coverstock preparation.

If you were to sand it to 2000, why not go to 4000 and finish it off with Diamond Gloss ? That stuff , Storm says, is 5000, that should just about kill anything, I'd think..Yes ?,,or am I way off here ?

corectomundo! I've shaved with the polish from that sucker! Alas, it is quite hard to find now, and plus, more people have 2000 grit paper than 4000.

if you are looking for Diamond Gloss, check out ebay, someone from CA is selling 2 bottles, a bit high, but as you say, you want it, you pay for it.

just letting you know, that's the only place I can find it and I use it on all my customers' spare balls....to me it's the best thing since sliced bread.
