Hot Line

Has anyone else noticed that the last 4 releases in the hot line seem "weaker" or less ball than a lot of previous releases for that line. Ride, Joy Ride, Match, Match Pearl. Seemed like the Frantic series/Lights Out series were just more ball. R2S vs Reactor, more diff, lower RG's...

Well yeah the biggest issue between the hot line and thrunder line--was the fact they had the same covers, just different cores.  R2S can be too strong!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

Irrelevant backstory that got me down this investigative path - I lost in match play in a tournament the other day on the burn. I was darn near as far left as possible with the Hy-road Pearl. The guy I was against couldn't miss and he was playing about 17-8 with a Lights out. Two handed but low revs and alot of end over end.

Anyways, got me wondering how he had that lights out clearing the heads and mid so easily.

Low revs and a lot of end over end would be your answer. Well, that and a Lights Out is definitely less ball than a Hy-Road pearl despite both using R2S covers.

I think the recent Hot category balls being weaker is a good thing. They're well-placed between the Tropicals and the resin balls in the Thunder line. Weaker equipment should be emphasized more... but that's not going to happen when more and more hook is what sells.

Right, its actually quite challenging to find weaker equipment now a days. Looking for a strong ball just requires you to point.

I agree.  I miss my Arson Low Flare.  Gave it to my son and had it re-drilled.

I'm tempted to purchase one of the Roto Grip Hustle's but reviews and online chat all mention its surprising how much it hooks for an HP1 ball.

If they would just change the name of the tropical breeze to something else I would consider it, lol.  No offense to all of the breeze owners out there.

I'm going to just wait till the Match series replacements drop and see if I like them.

They did. Storm now dubs the balls in that line Tropical Storm.

The Ride and JoyRide yes. The Match/Match Pearl I'm not too sure of them being significantly weaker.

The one Match Pearl I've seen in person still moved a lot on a high friction house shot. My Ride would hook more than expected some days too.

The Brunswick Rhino I have is definitely weaker overall than the Ride I had. For me and others around me, the Bruiser core in the Ride series really revved up pretty well for a high rg low diff ball

Have you tried the Match or the Match Pearl?
They're not as weak as some people think (not referring to you here). The Reactor coverstock is not a weak resin, by any means. They should be close to what the Lights Out used to be (I had one, Lights Out, and it was pretty strong for me and my oil.)

I tried the Match but the span was too long. Just had IT so I could throw my thumb insert in it. I guess it did seem decently strong. I haven't seen many of the pearls but it does kinda interest me.

FYI I was thinking of the Match Pearl for myself, but all the reviews give it such a huge backend, for my slower ball speed, that I had to let the concept go. I had wanted  a step up from my Ride. I have that now.

but the Match Pearl is the one of was thinking of for you, as a step down from the HR Pearl.

Try to see some good video reviews of it, like Tamer Bowling. Then see how you feel about it. It might not change your mind, but it might.

(Added --- here's a list of YouTube videos of the Match Pearl:

I am curious to see how much of a difference there is between the Wreck-Em and the Match Pearl as well.

Amen times 1000 coorzero!!! You can imagine how many times I wish storm would put weaker cores out on some of these entry level pieces.  It's frustrating to me that I have almost the entire Wrecker series and yet I can pretty much get away with using these on med/heavy out conditions.  :-\

Match and Match Pearl are actually quite strong for where they're at considering there's nothing between them and the Tropicals . . that's a fairly huge gap.  Stronger cores are used to maintain better control and ball roll.  If you have a weaker ball and weaker core, they can sometimes be very over under.  Stronger core keeps ball roll more stable.
