Depth Charge, Super Charge and Flash Force
« on: April 28, 2004, 09:27:22 PM »
Any forseeable overlap?  I'm considering getting all three this weekend.  My initial thoughts would be to stack the Depth, and drill the Super and Flash 5x4.  I'm ditching the rest of my "arsenal" and starting fresh.  Gonna drill everything with the same measurements.  The only ball I'm keeping is my Uranium.  I have an Ultimate Inferno on the way via a trade here, so that pretty much covers heavy oil.  A strong particle pearl for the next step down, a strong solid after that, then my Uranium, followed by a control solid.  I'd like the Flash to replace my X-Factor, and before anybody goes crazy, my X reacts nothing like it did when it was new.  It's been through hundreds upon hundreds of games, resurfaces, it barely has labels left, and it reacts more like a lower end polished solid now.  I still have yet to cover dry conditions, but I have two plastic balls.  Gonna leave one polished, and sand the other one, and that should just about have me set.  Thoughts or opinions?

My girlfriend has the Super Charge but she is full-roller so I cnat offer much in that area. I have not seen the Flash Force thrown yet. But I did purchase a Depth Charge and I strongly suggest you dont stack this ball if you have any kind of a strong release. The cover and core on this ball are strong and the ball has a strong backend motion. Stacked can make this ball go crazy.

I had a Super Charge, and loved it, but I drilled it stacked, and the sucker flared out on me.  I track high to begin with, but I could get it to track over the thumb from the right side of the fingerholes.  Maybe I'll tame down the drilling on the Depth a tad, but I want it pretty aggressive.

Look at 4 3/4 x 4 drilling on the DC that should be plenty strong I know it is for me.

i track high as well and because of that dont drill anything with the pin 5-1/2 from my pap anymore cause it will clip the fingers. Maybe a 4 x 4?

Yeah, 4x4 was what I was thinking.  I'd rather have the cg out than in, cause last time I drilled a label, it tracked over my fingers.  Of course, my Reloaded I kicked the cg out, and it rolled out.  My favorite drilling seems to be 5x4, but that's just a little weak, and anything else between that and 4x4 doesn't quite roll the way I'd like it to.  Maybe I'll stack it, but put the pin above the ring finger and make it more like 4 1/2 x 4 1/2.

I thought you were quitting Hammie?

For someone who complains about stuff hooking early and rolling out, you chose three pretty aggressive balls.  Shouldn't you at least have a Barbed Wire or Power Charge Pearl, maybe even a Big Hit Pearl thrown in there?  Ditch either the Super or Depth Charge.

Ultimate Inferno
Depth/Super Charge
Flash Force
Uranium
Barbed Wire (Power Charge Pearl/Big Hit Pearl)

You both made great points.  Um, I was going to quit, but thanks to my boss at the shop, I was able to fix some things and really REALLY turned stuff around.  When I started messing with things last May, I added a slide step to my 4 step delivery.  I'd slide with my left foot to get things going, then I'd do my normal 4 step.  I also tried to really straighten my elbow out and cup my wrist.  I hurt both of them doing that, and ended up turning my wrist left to take some pressure off.  The problem with that was that I'd almost turn the ball backwards in my backswing, and that was creating a lot of inconsistency.  It also made the ball roll really early, and that contributed to my fingers relaxing in an effort to get my thumb out cleaner and not hit on it.  That made me even more inconsistent.

I hadn't videotaped myself for a while, and the last time I did a couple months ago, it looked alright.  I tried to keep my wrist straighter, and that HELPED, but my timing was still way off.  My boss told me about the wrist thing, and also told me that slide step was probably messing my timing up.  I'd start out slow, and then I'd speed up.  So I got rid of the slide step (which felt REALLY weird to go back to 4 step) and relaxed my wrist and bent my elbow juuuust a tad like I used to, and now everything's wonderful.  I was bowling so well I didn't want to stop the other day, and ended up forcing myself to quit after 4 hours.  I ended at like 300-some frames.  I never practice for scores, or even bowl games, so that wasn't what was nice.  I was actually hitting spots and was very satisfied with how I was throwing the ball.  Pleasing myself is very hard to do, just ask anybody who watches me bowl.

ANYWAY, about the balls.  I do want the Depth to be more aggressive than the Super, and roll up earlier.  My previous encounter with the Super at 4x4 gave me a VERY smoooooth but incredibly predictable ball that I absolutely loved.  It flared out at 40 feet if I put more than 250 revs on it, but other than that . .  I want it for the predictability, but to go a little longer and be a little stronger on the backends.  As for the Depth, I want a super aggressive particle pearl that I can use on longer patterns.  I'd keep it polished, so when the lanes either started carrying down or burning, I could switch to the Super for either circumstance.  On carrydown, the surface of the Super would help it dig through the oil, but on burn, the drilling would help it get down the lane a little, and because Monsoon is sooo smooth off dry, I wouldn't have to make any large adjustments.  Sounds great for the Flash Force though, that's exactly what I'm wanting it to do.  Not hook a bunch, but be very smooth and predictable.  Would I need something other than the Uranium between the Super and Flash?  I'd thought about REALLY polishing the Uranium up and using it for a tad drier conditions.

I'm ditching everything else because it all feels different.  I've been looking and looking for a drilling that felt good for more than a week, and since my last experiment has been working for three weeks, I figure I'll drill everything the same and give my hand a chance to get used to something.  I LOVE my Hot Wire, but it's weird, I never seem to get anything going.  I could probably shoot 220+ every game with it, but wouldn't shoot more than 240 very often.  Anyway, other than that, I have an old X-Factor that NEEDS to be retired, a new one that doesn't feel that great, a Detonator that needs retirement, and a purple Fuze.  Yi, long post, rant off.
