how do i keep my duece alive?
« on: September 02, 2003, 07:38:28 PM »
Ok i am on my 4th ball in 3 years. I have had a Hammer wheel, trauma response, Icon2, and now a X-factor deuce. The wheel and the response were a nightmare.

While both of the balls were great over the first 2-3 months of having them. I noticed that my reaction was less and less over time. Until finally I had Not back end from the what so ever. The balls would just roll and roll and never catch.

My Icon2 has beed good to me. I have seen a reduction in reaction, but it still works well enough for me to use on medium oil condition lanes.  The Icon2 from my experience though is a down and in type of ball, and that is not the type of shot I am used to shooting.

Anyway I have rolled the deuce for 6 games now, and am over all impressed with its performance, but I would love it if anyone has any helpful hints on how to get a season worth of bowling out of it without a huge loss in reaction. I understand that bowling balls lose reaction over time, i just want to know how to make it last as long as possible..

I roll 3 nights a week and the lanes are always a heavy oil pattern. just in case anyone wanted to know.

Well as far as cleaning as protection is concerned, you can use Formula 409 or Simple Green, or citrus based cleaners to remove the surface oils.  If you prefer spending some money, Track's Clean N Dull, Neo Tac Liquuid Sandpaper will keep the balls duller.  There's also Black Magic Rejuvenator which is a degreaser and one hell of a cleaner.

Doc's Magic Elixir will shield the ball from intruding oils to make the cover last longer.

I also lightly hit my Deuce with a green scotchbrite pad to keep it dull since it shines quickly.

If you hit it with scotchbrite, add the Magic Elixir after you do so.  Each application of Elixir lasts around 30 games.

Pin_Krusher IS a serious threat to modern day bowling wood as we know it today.

I think the advice on the scotch brite and keeping the ball REALLY clean are the keys. I gave mine another deep clean and hit it with scotchbrite last night - I had to put it away because it hooked too much. Been a long time since I've seen that reaction...
The cover stock does shine up really, really easy on this ball. I don't understand why.

I, too, loved the ball when I first got it, but was convinced it died a very untimely death.

Got my Hook Again yesterday - I'll throw the deuce in there this weekend and see if it helps.

Well, after deep cleaning, and green scotch brite, my deuce seems to be doing better. I was pleased with it's performance last night. Unfortunately, I waited too long to pull it out, because I'd lost confidence in the ball...

But I found the reaction to be quite nice!
