Cheetah
« on: August 09, 2007, 12:09:05 PM »
Hey everybody, i am posting this here because one of my balls is a storm paradigm passion. I have a pba inferno, and a paradigm passion, both at 600. I was just wondering which one would be best for the cheetah. I am a pretty low rev player, about 250, 15 mph and a med-high tracker. Thanx a lot.

Ok thanks, wouldn't that make me move in though. Would i be able to carry and play maybe from 15 to 2 or is that too much swing.

You aren't going to need to swing it that much.  In fact, swinging just gets you into trouble on the Cheetah.  You want to move right as far as you can.  You may need to throw the ball a little faster as well.  The problem with swinging on this pattern is that it gets VERY inconsistent at the breakpoint when you do, and you will see a very bad over/under reaction.  The further right you can start the ball, the more consistent your reaction will be.

brand new amf synthetics ? well, my last regional tournament was on the cheetah pattern on amf hpl 9000 synthetics. i used a fury( 4,000 abralon ) for the first 4 games and a scorchin' inferno( 1,000 abralon + polish ) for the last 4 games. both balls were drilled with the pin next to the ring finger and the cg in the center of my grip. i played straight down the 3 board all day with an end-over-end roll and medium to slightly higher ball speed. carry was my problem----many ringing 10's. also many solid 8's. threw the ball well but didn't score.

Ok, that may need to be something i need to work on. Getting some more forward roll with speed. Because of the low rev-rate, i might be able to get away with using my regular roll and going outside, do u think 7-2 and back would be ok?

So speaking of Cheetah...I bowled on something very similar to it today in a mini sweeper tourney over by my house. The pattern was 31 feet buffed out to 39 feet. The back seemed pretty flat, because no matter where the ball was by the breakpoint, it was hooking a TON. So I tried my Passion swinging it, and the ball was covering so many boards from about 20 to 8 and either coming in heavy and even crossing at time, I just put it away and out came my Pyro. Now I have it at 2000 Abralon, and the ball was about an arrow weaker than my Passion, but it was so inconsistent on the breakpoint that it stunk really bad. I polished it with the MoonShine stuff by Storm, and it tamed my over/under big-time. The surface of the lanes are pretty worn (it's actually the same house that the US Open is on, Carolier Lanes in New Brunswick, NJ), and even with a 2000 polished Pyro and me being a stroker, the ball was STILL moving a ton. I had trouble the first game, then the second and third games I was tearing it up, but I would miss single pin spares like it was my day job. I think what I want to invest in is a ball that's meant for these shorter or lighter oil pattern. I think the difference between this and the Cheetah, besides 4 feet, was the volume. This tourney pattern was really light up front. What weaker type balls have you guys thrown on shorter patterns with success? I was thinking of either a Jolt Solid, or a Thunderstruck Solid, or maybe even a Tropical? Or maybe getting a stronger ball with a weaker drilling would be best? I'm not sure, and it's been in the back of my mind all day.
