JoyRide replacement
« on: March 14, 2017, 01:08:35 PM »
My Joyride is cracking all around the thumb and the bridge, small chunks are falling out.  Currently using Super Glue to slow it down, but would like some opinions for a Joyride replacement.  I'm not brand specific.  Thank you in advance!

That sucks. The Joy Ride was a great ball in Storm's lineup and I'm not sure if anything out there is quite a comparable replacement for it. Such a nice and smooth ball for the burn, but still enough pop to not be inconsistent through the deck.

With that in mind something like a Nitrous, Rhino, or maybe even an Outcast might be your best bet. A Tropical Storm isn't a bad option either if you don't mind going even weaker. The Freestyle balls have fairly similar core numbers but the coverstocks on those tend to make the ball have a pretty strong move off the spot from what I've seen. And definitely not the Hustle line. Those are a lot of ball for supposedly being in the lower-tier.

The closest, that comes to mind, of balls that are not discontinued, is the Brunswick Rhino. The Outcast is far too smooth and urethane-like in its breakpoint. Haven't tried a Nitrous, but from all reports, it seems to be in a similar neighborhood.

Why not a Match Pearl?

If you like the ball so much, why not have your PSO drill out the cracking areas and then plug n re-drill?

I will throw out the Roto Grip Hectic as a possible replacement ball.

The Joyride is a good ball, but I don't want to plug and re-drill, rather just pick up a new ball that is kind of similar.  Thank you for the suggestions!

Why not a Match Pearl?

As near as I can tell, it's a 1/2 - a full step above the Joy Ride in overall hook and in oil handling.
