Hy-Road Comparison

How does this ball compare with the Global Burners and/or the Roto Grip Hyped series?  Using this ball, what would be a good three ball arsenal along with the Burners or Hyped balls?  Say from dry to medium conditions and not for heavy oil.

Hyroad is stronger, probably by an arrow at least.

In my experience.... throwing it since 2009, and owning 3. The ball will like medium conditions, and be stronger than the hyped and burner lines...and in most cases be the first ball out of the bag of you are keeping a rotation of the 3 lines to use.

I would expect more overlap with the hustle line than I would see adding the hyroads in.

Thanks.  So I could probably add a Burner Pearl or Solid under the Hy-Road and maybe a Tropical or a Rhino for the very dry.  Thanks again.

All of those are under.

Hyroad is a true middle range peice. Everything under that line can kinda flirt with being strong... But in my opinion on the fresh for example the burners, and other balls before just don't shape up correctly until the shot breaks down a touch.

For example when I for some reason have a great look with a burner solid on the fresh, it will doink 10s frequently until more friction exists...

My bag is ad pearl, burner solid (has oob polish), HB/Hy-road

Good options existing the hustle camo, burner pearl has more fanfare than the solid, local guys like the hyped hybrid. That would be a great trio. Three looks due to the core shape. Hyroad and an IQ tour is what I'd put in the middle. And then pick your poison when it comes to the master and premier, hp3-4, 800-900 lines.

Doing a little digging and looking at the coverstock strength charts for both companies; both the R2S and VTC covers are in the bottom third (meaning VTC is very similar to R2S).  Secondly, the RGs are similar with the Hyped being a little lower.  So the main difference is the diffs (.046 vs .036 in 15lbs and .057 vs .037 in 16lbs). The HyRoad has more flare so more cover will make contact with the lane surface.  Comparing hybrids; the HR would be similar to the Hyped Hybrid but the HR will have more continuation on the backend.  Watch the video I listed at about the 4:20 mark.  He does state that the HyRoad and Hyped Hybrid are in the same zone but just shape differently.

I could see it. However the hp2 typically is keeping the target Infront of me, hyroads I can play much much deeper.

If you're building a light / med oil bag I could see both being necessary

Exactly.  That is how you would want to use both balls.  Typically lower diff balls are more designed to go straighter and higher diff balls are meant for going more around the lane.  Lane conditions can obviously dictate some exceptions with that (longer patterns will need something with higher diffs even though you have to play straighter for example).

First, thanks to all for the good information and advice.  After reading all I could and looking at, what feels like 1000 videos, I am ordering a Storm Hy-Road.  Why?  Cause it's been around forever which means it must be good, I like the way it goes down the lane and I just want one.  Then I'm also ordering the Global Burner Pearl cause I think I need a pearl in my bag and this one looks pretty good for the medium/drier conditions I will probably be seeing.  My dry lane ball is a Brunswick Rhino.  Why? Cause I already have one and the first time I used it (a couple of weeks ago) I shot 600+.

I do enjoy my HyRoad as well, after 7-8 years of ownership. Dependable and knowing how it reacts to my particular style of bowling & conditions presented. Comfortable too for this old geezer. Have invested in numerous balls since then, but "Mr. Dependable" doesn't seem to ever let me down or let me flounder while on the lanes.

Hyroad and a burner pearl combo will definitely compliment and knock down some pins. Good choice.

Thanks.  One more question please.  How about the odor/scent?  Saw one of these at the alley and the scent was fairly strong.  Owner of the ball said the ball was about 4-5 years old and the scent has not faded much.  This might be a problem for me as I have asthma and strong smells can give me a breathing problem.

I have a pretty decent sniffer and I have not noticed any overpowering smell emitting from my ball from day one. Oh sure when it was brand new I could smell a wee bit of fruity smell but nothing anywhere close to overpowering. My wife has asthma as well and anything can trigger her breathing, but being that my HyRoad is kept in our office, she hasn't had any problems with it being there or being around it 24/7 in said room or in our house. Maybe if you can find one @ a pro shop somewhere, maybe handle it and sniff test it and see if you have any reaction to it. My ball is around 8 years old and no longer emits any smell that I've been able to detect, but that's just me I suppose. Good luck in your quest to find out the answers asked to the HyRoad.
