HY-road is too much,advice please
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:56:28 AM »
HI,

Moved from med lanes to med-dry and Hy-road is too much.  My Hy-road is drilled with pin between finger holes just above.  I play up the 10 board, stroker.  The ball hooks too much, if I swing it out,it leaves 10 pins and hits like a cotton ball.  What should I do?
 1. Redrill hyroad to go longer?
 2. Buy another ball (lights out)
 3.  Redrill another ball (I have nexxus, versa-max, another hy-road,)

Let me know please......

Have you tried adjusting the surface at all?  Maybe hit it with some polish

Hi,

I will try that first.  I think I have it at 2500 now.  Would moving the fingers help if that doesnt work?

I'd try using a different surface first, such as going to 3000 or 4000.  Polish will also help the ball clear the heads better as well.

If that doesn't work, you can always plug/redrill to have a weaker layout.  Or, you could keep the Hy-Road as is with leaving it for medium patterns and then adding another ball such as a Scream/Shout or a Lights Out, Frantic or Freak'n Frantic.

Is your Hy-Road at 2500 grit dull?

If it's 2500 grit then with added polish, forget about more polish, UNLESS you have a very light hand polish. By the time most people have a good polish on a ball, the working grit level is around 5300 - 5500 grit.

The only polish that would help is a slip agent polish, which reduces hook and backend and adds some length. Basically it clogs the pores slightly, reducing oil absorption andyou can use it on less oil.

Th other option is to drill it with a longer pin-PAP distance and modify the VAL and Drill angles.

Honestly, it's a shame to spoil such a great ball by doing any of the above. I'd buy a weaker ball, like an RG Scream or a Tropical Heat Pearl (they're still around) . The Lights out uses the same coverstock but a slightly weaker core; it won't buy you much.

I bought a lights out and I gotta say it's one of the best balls I've ever owned. Long with a smooth move off the dry. Been cashin every week with it. If ur bowlin on meddry it would be a good option.

Different layout isn't going to help.  I would try going to 4000, maybe with some polish.  Also, sometimes you can just play up 10 board, not matter what equipment you are throwing.   Try making a 2 or three board move in with your feet and target.  That keeps you from swinging the ball so wide.
