Old School Storm
« on: June 16, 2009, 03:41:25 AM »
Going with the old school stuff can really pay off.  I just picked up a Storm Power Charge for $5 off ebay.  I only filled the thumbhole, redrilled it, then hit it with a 2000 abralon and some Ebonite Factory finish (coverstock was in decent shape).  Based on the reviews I thought it would probably hook okay, but what I got is one of the biggest hooking balls I've ever thrown that also has incredible length.  It's a little much for a THS, but I'm taking it with me to my PBA League this Thursday to see what it does on a more challenging pattern.  I have some pretty high hopes for this one.

that was/is one of storms strongest mid level balls ever. it could handle alot more oil than people thought. i had the recharge too, it was pearl and was very smooth even for a pearl ball. i havent been able to find a pearl as good as the recharge. the power charge allowed me to move deep without the fear of checking up too early like some high end balls. very good find, especially for 5 bucks.

Lefty, I agree with you on that. The older stuff have strong cores, but the coverstock is more mild, allowing the ball to rev up and save energy for the backends. Any core plus the curelyon cover is money on a ths or like a cheetah or the viper pattern. For instance, my too hot with a slight surface roles soo smooth on the cheetah, then I have an erazer blaze that just rips up a hosue shot..lol. Yeah if we can find some more older stuff I say go and buy it while it is still around

I've got an X-Factor that I bought off Jeff Carter's charity site.  Had it plugged & re-drilled pretty much in the same spot.  Pin over bridge, CG in palm.  It's fun to bring it out once in a while.  I'm afraid the ball return will gouge it up, so I don't use it too often, LoL.
