Title: Hy-Road & Oil Conditions
Post by: sabman on July 05, 2011, 01:33:37 PM
The Storm website lists the Hy-Road as a Medium-Heavy oil ball, but I was told that it's not the case anymore.  I was told to look into a Prodigy now for that condition.  It kind of makes sense because they made the Prodigy to be stronger and fit in-between a Virtual Gravity and Hy-Road, but it is still listed as Medium-Heavy.  Also, the new Victory Road Solid is listed as Medium-Heavy.

Is this a case of the website being outdated?  Would the Hy-Road not be enough ball anymore for today's fresh Medium-Heavy oil conditions?  I know a lot depends on style of play, but lets say for the average bowler, would it not be enough ball?

my hy-road is drilled to be my benchmark ball and is great on medium volume oil patterns. im sure with more surface it can handle medium-heavy or if you play a straighter line to the pocket.

i think the anarchy and marvel solid are great medium-heavy balls.

I would rate the hyroad as a medium heavy ball.. especially if you knock off the shine and dull down the surface a bit.

I have found that the hyroad can really be used on almost anything, except for the great extremes of burnt or flooded.. it's a great all around ball.

Agree with J w73.

The HY-Road is a good medium to heavy oil ball.    The Hybrid coverstock gives me good mid lane read or arc shape.   I throw mine in game 1 in league nights from about 20 to 10 with great results.   At some point in about game 2, the HY-Road break is too strong to keep right of the head pin and then I switch to the Victory Road.

The Victory Road is best on medium oil conditions and its pearl coverstock lets it glide through the heads with a sharp break point at the dry.  My favorite spot with the Victory Road seems to be about 26 and 15 and I love the sharp entry angle which churns the pins.
