My Anarchy has about 20 games on it currently and at first, it was a great ball. However, it was a little too touchy for the lane conditions I was bowling on. Therefore, I made a surface adjustment to 2000 grit and polish. However, when I decided that 2000 grit was worse, I brought it back to factory finish which is 1500/polished. Now, I see that the ball is skidding way too much and was not able to use it this past Sunday (my Rising Star was outhooking the Anarchy.)

Now, I do keep up on the maintenance with the ball, cleaning it after being used, and have used Powerhouse Gel on it once to do a deep clean. I don't think that it would have soaked up that much oil to need a baking at the pro shop. Also, the drilling on the ball is nearly identical to the VG Nano I have, except it doesn't have the hole at P1. Is it possible that the ball may have too much polish after 2 surface changes? If so, what is the best and safest way to remove it?

Nicanor,

I brought it down with a light sand at 2000. I'll see how it rolls on Friday. If it bites too much too early, I'll try the 4000 and see if I like that better. I think the Powerhouse Factory Finish is just too much polish. Any suggestions on a better polish? Or should I just get the Storm Step 2 and forget the polish?

One of my favorite polishes I use is Rough Buff. I think Brunswick makes it. It puts more of a sheen rather than a shine. It gives just enough shine to help the ball through the heads but not enough to where it takes away from the ball doing its thing on the backend. I had a Rattler that I threw out of the box. It was almost uncontrollable for me. So I took it into the shop and hit it with 1000, then 2000, and then Rough Buff. Ball has been awesome ever since.Rough Buff may be a good substitute for Storm 2.

When I need a "rough buff" type finish I use 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound. It works great, but I rarely use it now since Abralon became popular.

I get the same thing with Ebonite polishes, its just way too much even at lower grit levels. I like Reacta-shine from Storm, its just enough to get it through the heads and doesnt kill the reaction on the backend.

Rough buff was my first choice but I was able to get a deal on my driller's remaining Storm 2 compound and I took that route.

Storm finish 2 has a polish in it. On some balls it shines them up well and other it leaves it sheen. On my cell it polished it up but on my rapid fire it's sheen. Not sure how or why that happens. It shined up my mission nicely too.

It more than likely has to do with the finish you started with (number of games rolled affects the Ra values of the ball). The amount of product used, or on the towel, the type of applicator, and how much water you use will also vary your results. Also, use constant pressure.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yesterday, I tried doing a light sanding of 1500 to see if that would help the ball recover. That did not really work well, so I ended up going to the resurfacing. I took the suggestion of 360/500 and then applied Step 2. Using the Anarchy tonight in heavy oil along with my Nano, it did have a lot more teeth in the ball and was performing better than it had been. I don't think it was the exact best condition to throw it, so hence it will go to the other house to make sure (they use a medium condition with higher friction on the backends).

I'll keep an eye on it and throw it a little more over the next few weeks to make sure the result is what I want. If it ultimately does not, then I may potentially look to trade at my pro shop for an Infinite Theory. For some reason, it seems that since I started to use hybrids several months ago, they really match up with my game (throwing between 18-22mph, between 370-400 revs and play multiple lines.) Solids have always matched up well for me, so there is no sense in changing that. The bright side: since coming back to the sport several months ago, at least I am finding this out now before the fall league season starts.

I have some good news. After throwing the Anarchy for the 2nd time since resurfacing it, the ball was much more consistant and performed much better than it had been. Now I threw it on a medium-heavy condition for a few games and lined up really well.

The final process with resurfacing was doing 500 Siaair, gray scotch brite pad, Storm Step 2, and then Storm Reacta Shine. Overall, it came back to life and I can find a use for it again in my bag. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions in helping me out with this.

I took others advice as well. I ordered the Rough Buff and Storm Reacta Shine. Did my Anarchy with the rough buff and my VE with the Storm Reacta Shine. Must say I loved the reaction of my Anarchy after the rough buff. It was like it was brand new. I hit it with 500 pad then the rough buff. I didn't get the same reaction I was looking for from the reacta shine. I'm going to hit that one with the rough buff also and see what happens.

Tommyboy, thanks for bringing up the topic and getting a great share session going. The ideas have gotten me pointed in the right direction. Keep shootin!

No problem storm22. This is what we are all here for- get good ideas from others in the know to help all of us improve our games and/or equipment.

I threw the Anarchy a little more this afternoon in a practice session. This time, I purposely took it to an AMF house that still has older wood lanes/wood approaches (the 2 other AMF houses switched to synthetics.) First game, I threw the Nano because of the higher concentration of oil. However, the 2nd game, the Nano was dying out on the backends since the oil was already in transition. At this point, the Anarchy came out and the resurfacing ideas really proved their worth. I got good length, nasty backend on it, and was able to use it to go 197 (clean but couldn't strike until late), 220, and 254 for the remaining 3 games.

The big key at this place was moving left a few boards when needed because the backends were extremely dry. Also, I just needed to adjust speed a little bit when needed to keep the ball online. I basically went 16 to 8, 18 to 10, 22 to 10, and eventually did go 26 to 12 during the last game. In any case, length was key for me today. The Anarchy flat out shined.

Is it possible that I may still pick up an Infinite Theory? Yes, because I do see times where it would be useful to have a little more length than the Nano but have it read earlier than the Anarchy. However, I am glad that the ideas all of you gave helped me bring this ball back to where I wanted it.
