Best use of Hy-Road
« on: February 04, 2010, 11:49:21 AM »
Just received my Hy-Road and curious how most of you use it, because I witnessed the great mid-lane reaction that it's capable of but wasn't sure how to best attack the lanes with it. The box finish seemed a little bit over/under. I wasn't sure if this goes away was the box finish dulls a little bit or is the ball more effective at a different surface?

Mine is 5 1/2 X 4 pin below the bridge with a low hole.  I hit it with 4000 grit and its a great benchmark ball.  I usually throw it on medium oil and I mostly try to stay around the track area with it, if I move in b/c of the drilling it can hit soft.  I'll then go to the one pearl or the reign if its too much.  Great, great bowling ball.

Okay, so I should play pretty square and near the track with this one. That's what I thought, but I think I'm going to take the polish off of it.

Also, I''m sure if I went with a higher pin above the fingers it would be a good choice to move in and open the lane up.  My brother has one like this and its a beast.  My drilling isn''t the best option for that tho

Mine is drilled label, pin in line with the ring finger. It's finished at 1000/1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper (a little smoother than 2000 abralon).  Takes the over/under out and let's the ball work well on medium to heavy.  Love to watch the pins fly when it hits!

This is what I'm thinking about doing with it. I want the Hy-road to be my benchmark ball, and if I leave it at its box finish there is a huge gap between it and my Reign of Fire.

I saw the potential of the ball last night, I just think for me box finish isn't the correct surface. That's why I was trying to find the consensus of what you guys think is the best surface for the ball.

I asked a similar question when I got mine.  A lot of people suggested 2000 abralon fir benchmark.
