Hy-Road vs. Burn
« on: August 30, 2009, 09:52:45 AM »
Yes, I am comparing a Storm to a Hammer ball here. Just curious how the two compared. I am thinking about getting a Burn for sure, but was wondering how a Hy-Road would compare as far as overall strength and angularity.

Thanks.

Have not looked at the specs but have seen both balls rolled and the HyRoad covers more boards and has a more defined move off of the breakpoint.

Umm.... what was the burn drilled negative. The burn is much more agressive on the backend then the hyroad. The hyroad is allergic to carry down vs the burn. Drilled identical, you will get at least 2 more boards out of the burn, they do them in different ways, but still overall more agressive!

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some virtual gravity, some hot sauce, a liberator, and a saw.. how can I loose....

....HG-300(2006 w/Desert Heat)...299 (03/15/09 w/Agent Orange)...HS-776 (Hot Sauce Pearl & Ebonite Magic)

From a pure numbers standpoint, a Hy-Road should go a smidge longer since the RG is higher and it should react a touch more since the DIFF is higher.

I threw someones Burn, seemed archy to me and its drilled stronger than my Hy-Road. All resin balls need dry to react...

Well I'm gonna have to agree with ccrider on this one.  Coverstock trumps core.  HyRoad has a hybrid cover at 1500 grit polish & Burn is a pearl at 4000 polish.  No question the Hy-Road.

For me the the overall the strength of the two were close, both are surprising strong balls. But the Burn is cleaner up front and more angular off the spot. But my Hy-road absolutely hated any oil downlane(even with surface) and the Burn is amazing good at handling carrydown.

I have a HyRoad drilled pin under, No.2 drilling if I remember correctly. The ball has no problem with carry down and I have it at 2000 polished to a nice shine with Bean's sauce. Off the spot, the HyRoad, OOB and at 2000 polished, is more angular than any Burn that I have seen, and there are several being used in our league.

You can adjust the cover to change the reaction of the ball, and the bowlers style certainly will affect how the ball rolls,  but based on what I have seen, the Burn OOB is not as angular, and does not cover as many boards as the HyRoad.

Well I guess it depends on the bowler and the conditions. Because I actually own both and the Burn and Hy-Road were drilled 4 1/2" pin under and I saw the opposite results throwing BOTH side by side on multiple conditions.

You are better off comparing the Reign vs the Burn...

i have both drilled similar and the burn has alot stronger back end move then the hy-road for me, the hy-road is alot smoother  more like the psycho.
