Suggestions for filling in the gaps
« on: August 27, 2011, 02:06:15 PM »
I really enjoy the 4 balls that I have from Storm and Roto Grip. However, I was wondering if there were any gaps or minor tweaking that you can potentially think of that can possibly help. So far, here is what I have:

  • Storm VG Nano (4x4x2, P1 hole, 2000 AB)
  • Storm Anarchy (4x4x2, no x-hole, 1500 polished)
  • RG Nomad Dagger (Storm #2 layout, 1500 polished)
  • RG Rising Star (Storm #1 layout with pin modified to be above ring finger, 1500 polished).

Rev rate is between 400-450 with speed being between 18-22mph. I can soften speed down to 17 as needed for heavier oil or throw around 24 with burned out lanes. Playing outside has always been my A game, but I can and do change hand positions to move inside as needed. I currently don't use a plastic ball for cross lane spares as I can flatten out my hand a ton to prevent the ball from hooking on the backend and can up the speed (was clocked once at 27.7mph on the lane radar after leaving a solid 10, which didn't stand a chance.)

1 potential ball I thought of was to get another hybrid to go between the Nano and the Anarchy with the Infinite Theory. I also like what I see with the Critical Theory and could potentially drill it to react differently than the Anarchy. A third option was potentially a Victory Road pearl to have something more angular in the backend instead of additional midlane roll on the Dagger.

I wasn't sure of too much else though to backfill as the arsenal is in relatively good shape with most of the bases covered so far. However, I do prefer to stick with Storm and Roto Grip as I really like what both brands offer after making the switch from Columbia 300.  Any ideas are helpful and always appreciated.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 2000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Storm Anarchy: 1500 polished
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished

I think a symetrical solid with a longer pin (5 inch+ to pap) would be a good fit. A VR solid with your speed and revrate should be a good fit. I think two assymetrical balls are more than enough. No need for a Theory series ball. A true pearl like Victory Road or Marvel Pearl, again with a long pin would offer versatility as well.

If that were my lineup, I would agree and say a weaker pearl than the Anarchy that goes long and strong. A Victory Road pearl could be a good choice, but I would say a Bandit might be perfect (considering I have a Nomad Pearl and absolutely love that ball over my Victory Road pearl and the Bandit is the replacement for the Nomad Pearl).

What are some of the differences that you have seen between the Bandit and the VR Pearl?

I dont have a Bandit, but the ball it replaced, the Nomad Pearl. From what I see/hear, the Bandit is a tad stronger, but the same motion. The Nomad Pearl is much cleaner than the VR pearl throughout the whole lane, but breaks sharper on the backend. The VR pearl is smoother overall, but has a stronger continuous backend reaction. I find the Nomad Pearl to be more predictable in its reaction from shot to shot. The VR pearl is so strong in the friction that it makes me pay dearly when my line dries up suddenly. I find my VR to be similar to my Hy-Road, but more backend reaction and a tad cleaner through the front. Everyone is different, but you might find the VR pearl to overlap your Dagger a bit. You might also fall head over heals with the VR pearl as most others have done since it is a great and different ball from Storm.
