Virtual Energy is HERE *Pics* REVIEW ADDED
« on: July 04, 2009, 09:27:16 AM »
So, mine was supposed to get here on the 24th, but due to it being postponed, I got it on the 29th.
For all of you that opened a 2nd Dimension and fell in love with that STRONG smell, this piece is gonna do the same, except think of smelling one of those Sour Apple Jolly Ranchers. The Scent is Pear Berry...

Anyhow, here are some pics...

As for the look of the ball, thing of a Sidewinder with a copper/gold color swirled into it. Very nice looking ball.

I will post a review of it as soon as I punch it up and throw it a few times. I cant wait!

Thanks,
Chrispy

The VE scent is just as strong as the 2d...i love it!  I was throwing my second dimension the other night and I had someone 2 lanes over turn to his friend and say "Do you smell apples?"

You guys are totally correct about the smell of the new Energy.  The smell of mine caused me to sneeze when I first opened my box.  LOL!

Even after getting it drilled the smell is still powerful.  I left it my car before going to the lanes yesterday and the whole car smelled like candy.  When I took it out of the bag at the lanes, the folks that were bowling beside me all had the look of... "Damn, what is that smell?"

Anyway, the ball is fantastic.  Dare I say that is it just a strong as the VG on the back end.  When my VE hits the backend...  OMG!

Storm is going to sell a ton of these things.  LOL!

Drilled it up today and threw it for about 3 or 4 hours on a fresh THS and a broken down THS...

I drilled it pin above ring, cg below ring, MB below and right of thumb, and a weight hole 4 1/2 inches from my cg, in line with my center line and cg.

First off, ball hits great. Only problem I saw with it was it likes to send pins flying everywhere, which in some cases was bad, not keeping the pins low. But it hits like a megaton mack truck. Rolls very smooth, reads the friction very well.
The ball OOB does not like oil whatsoever. It needs friction to be at its ful potential. I plan on leaving it OOB for a while, but with some surface change, it could very easily handle some oil.

Another thing I seemed to notice, the ball will not do much if you spin it more than come up the back of it. Within the first hour, I had thrown three 2 counts. I was experimenting with the ball, throwing different angles, using different hand positions, etc. The VE seemed to only do well when my hand position was more behind the ball than around it. On the broken down shot, coming up behind the ball seemed to be the difference between a solid pocket strike and a 3 count.

I do think most people will love this ball simply because it reads the friction very well, as where most balls like to jump off the friction. If you come across a house that isnt known to carry well, I also believe this ball will help, since this balls like to turn all 10 pins into 10 messengers.

In all honesty, I would say this ball is somewhat like a stronger 2nd Dimension, it seems to read the lane a little better than the 2nd, and be stronger off the backend and slightly stronger in the midlane. If the VE was drilled in a moderate way(pin above bridge say...) it would be very close to the 2nd dimension.

As for a comparison to the VG, it is in a whole different category. While the VG rolls VERY early, and has a very strong arc in the oil, the VE pushed through the oil, and reads the dry a little better instead of hitting the dry and zipping off of it. I have a feeling these 2 balls  will be a great 1-2 combo for most bowlers. Maybe throw a weak drilled Hyroad in there and plastic, and you have a VERY well rounded arsenal.

Personally, I found this ball to be a very solid piece. I can say it will easily pick up my spot for the Medium/heavy to Medium/dry spot in my aresnal. I will definitely debate on picking up another and dulling it simply to see what it does. Overall, I would give it a very solid 9.75/10. And it smells amazing!

If anybody would like any more info or has any questions, please feel free to PM me!

Kudos Storm for making another piece that immediately found a home in bag. Keep up the good work!

Thanks,
Chrispy

This sounds like my experiences every single time I try to throw a polished Storm ball OOB.  The finish is just too shiny for its own good.  I pretty much always sand and then repolish it to my own liking to help it become less oil-allergic and improve the midlane.  I lose a little bit of backend, but I gain infinitely more from control, predictability, and confidence in the ball.

Britton, you should have asked if they liked apples. Then went up and threw a lawn-mower rapid fire scout at the ten and ask "How do you like 'dem apples"?

Both, it's considered a hybrid cover.

From Storm's website -

quote:
Our final product is the R2Xâ„¢ Hybrid.  The combination of the two pearls and a solid reactive delivers the perfect fit within our product line.  The solid generates just enough mid-lane read on the heavier volume patterns, while the two pearlized parts deliver the strong motion on the back-end.
