Is there a way to remove the smell
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:04:32 AM »
I have an old Storm x factor ace that has a horrible wintergreen smell.  I love the ball but really want to get rid of the scent.  First is there a way to remove the smell without changing the characteristics, if not is it possible what would be another ball that i could replace it with.  I really do like the ball too, put up 5 3s with it but i just cant deal with the scent anymore and want to get the smell out of the bag.

I'd use the ball in my addiction counseling office in place of my air freshening diffusers. Too many clients I work with have some pretty marginal hygiene issues.  Except I'd prefer a NIB one.

Is there a way to remove the fragrance? I can't think of one.

We have customers who've re-surfaced some older Storm stuff time and time again, but the fragrance stays. Many years ago I had a Shock Trauma that was wintergreen, and it made everything smell great... the bag, the locker, etc.

Yea but when i was in school i had a class where i dissected a cadaver and the smell is almost identical... the same reason i dont chew wintergreen gum anymore.  What would be a ball i could get as a direct replacement for this then i will go down to the local junior league and give this one away.

If I remember correctly the Ace was a low-load particle ball, and I don''t think Storm has made anything with a particle load for some time. Their newer solid reactives may be an option, but you may need to tweak the surface a little. Frankly, the newer stuff is better in my opinion.

If you could find a Pyro that was in good shape that may get you close reaction-wise.

Can you think of something else to complain about?

I wasn't aware i was trying to portray myself as a bowling guru but the fact that i am still using a ball that isn't even sold anymore should have probably been a clue.  Not sure what you mean by a house hack but if that means someone who only bowls one night a week and doesn't know anything about drilling or ball statistics then i guess i qualify.  Also since when is asking a question arguing?

Simply enough it seems the answer is no i cannot remove the smell so i will have to spend the money to do a direct replacement for it with something else.  Manufacturer doesn't matter to me just looking for something as similar as possible.

If I had a ball whose scent my nose associated with a cadaver, I'd probably want to replace it also...

Try holding your breath during your approach and release.  Another option is to spread maple syrup on your upper lip prior to your league.

I would say to check out the prodigy and put it at 1500 polished like your ACE.
That would be closest in the storm line

It is Blueberry.. hope there aren't any unpleasant memories associated with that smell
