Hyroad vs Virtual Gravity
« on: March 19, 2009, 09:01:33 AM »
I am considering purchasing either a HyRoad or Rogue Cell. I generally play on a THS, but will be playing some stepladder tournaments so I am thinking about drilling the ball 5 x 3 with for control moreso than skid flip.

How do these balls compare? I have a gravity shift, cell pearl, uprising, cell. The gravity shift and cell pearl overlap on THS.

Thanks for your feedback.

the hy road is more even arching than the rogue form what i've seen. 5x3 will give you more back end typically. both are strong balls.if the tournaments have more oil you may want the rogue. hope this helps.

ccrider, I recently sold my HYROAD because the ball was too hard to control on the backend.  Mine was drilled with my favorite layout (pin above bridge 5.5" from pap, CG kicked right and no balance hole).  In box surface the ball was far too strong on the backend.  Even though the backend reaction wasn't skid flip it was still very difficult for me to control. I brought the cover down to 2000 grit which helped a small amount but I still didn't like the reaction.  I was also not very pleased with the carry of the ball.  I left a lot of corner pins with the HYROAD.

Most bowling balls on the market are pretty dam good.  Their's only been a few bowling balls i've owned where my favorite layout didn't give me a good workable reaction.

I hope this info helps you out.  Keep in mind that i'm not saying the HYROAD is a bad ball.  The ball just didn't fit my game with the layout I was using.  Maybe a different layout would of giving me a more controllable reaction.

I plan on buying the Rouge Cell soon.  I think the Rouge Cell is stronger ball with a more controllable reaction.

Thanks for the reply Chitown.

Are specs are somewhat similar, and my favorite layout is about like yours. My PAP is actually 6 over 3/4 up, so I seem to do better with pin up drillings. I have about decided to wait for a few more reviews on the Rogue Cell, and then to purchase either a Rogue or a Virtual Gravity. If I can pick up a HyRoad used for cheap, I will do that also.
