I need a new spare ball
« on: July 18, 2012, 01:42:28 PM »
I am currently using a 16lb black knight for my 10 pins. I am throwing all 15lb except for this, so I need to get a new spare ball. I am looking at the ICE STORM black/silver - would this be a good choice?

Same as jkiser. Unless you put a boat load of revs on your spare shots, a plastic is a plastic. White dot, maxim, blue dot, ice storm, all are hard and go straight.

The reason why I'm asking is because my b/k does not skid - it actually rolls, and will slightly move left - ever so little - but i like that. i afraid these newer balls will slide/skid too much. I believe the cover on the b/k was a polyurethane.

If you want a spare ball to go straight as possible any polyester ball with a pancake block will do fine.  If you want a bit more roll look at a urethane ball.  Maybe one of the new Polar Ice balls would work for you.

I have the black/silver Ice and it's great for spares.  In fact, it won't hang at the edge so I have to hit the 10 pin squarely; a slightly missed mark to the right will go in the gutter.

I am also one who likes to see a little movement in my spare ball.  But since I have a lot of hand, plastic does this for me.  I even take the shine off of my plastic.

If you are the same, the Polar Ice is a great option.  Provides more movement than plastic, but not so much you miss corners.  Also, and this is big, urethane won't chip and will last longer.

I will go with the Polar Ice - with my higher speed , I'm sure I will like this better than the Ice Storm. I also like the fact that it has a urethane cover, that makes it similar to what I have. Thanks for all of the feedback.
