Idol compared to Phaze II
« on: March 17, 2018, 08:47:23 PM »
Looking at whether to stay with my beloved Phaze II or try an Idol... Possibly DDT, but I like higher diff equipment.

I know it's only been a week for IDOLizing, but has anyone thrown both and can comment? Not seeing what I need on YouTube. I have to admit, every %^&* video looks the same to me.... :(

This makes me curious as well. Hope this doesn't come off as hijacking, but stuck on which ball compliments the other balls I'm adding soon. Leaning Phaze II to join a Dare Devil Trick, Dare Devil, Rocket Ship and Lit (Alpha esq).
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta
Testing: MVP
Interests: Black Widow, Proof Solid, Idol Pearl

If you already have a DDT I'd go with the Idol to create some separation. Phase 2 seems fairly similar to the DDT but maybe a little more reaction overall

Guys, please don't hijack. Fair questions, but let's not turn this into a why is Idol different than DDT  :)

Are you interested in the pros and cons or trying to get a feel of what the Idol does compared to the Phaze II?

Idol is earlier, smoother (slightly), 3ish boards stronger, and more continuous.  Doesn't wiggle on the backend sometimes like the Phaze 2 does.  Idol for me is a much better ball.  Phaze 2 is great too, but it's too much of a maintenance diva, gotta keep the cover super fresh at all times.

ACtually interested in the difference between the two. I shot 300 with my Phaze II earlier this season and love it's reaction, but I know it's had a lot of games and its days are numbered.
Luke, at least for me, PII was a 7 pin machine until I left it alone, just chamois pad and hook it after every set, but no trips to the spinner. Maybe different definition of "Fresh". Now I've used it to go from 205 to 217 this year in league. I'll be buying another to keep, and a Sure Hook for Nats, but really curious on Idol... Sounds like I'll give it a try....

That's not surprising on your side of the lane, but what I meant was that it loses quite a bit of reaction as it lane shines, so if you want that box reaction, it requires more maintenance in my opinion than say the Code X does.  My X has lane shined a bit, but still acts like it did out of the box, just has maybe lost a board or two which is normal.  Phaze 2 lane shined and lost an entire arrow for me.  On the left side of the lane, I don't think you need it at box, letting it shine and leaving it there would be fine because the reaction is cleaner.  Once you get a little carrydown on the right side, which is already softer on the backend to begin with, it gets really squirty and wiggly unless you keep that surface fresh.

Luke, I respect ya brother, but huh? Right side needs more surface than left? Now I KNOW I'm in a parallel universe of some type. I bowl every week on conditions that (and I've seen this in person), when equal, right handers pack up and go home bitching about the lanes... I must be reading that wrong somewhere....

Lol you're not getting what I'm saying.  Phaze 2 specifically, not in general.  If you don't keep the surface fresh it gets super squirty on the right side of the lane.  Phaze 2 is the ball in a parallel universe.  I'd never throw surface on a house shot on the right side of the lane unless I was using that ball, with a bit of lane shine it's more wiggly than the Code Red on the right side.  On the left side though, some lane shine makes it the perfect lefty ball because it won't be jumpy.
