Storm's Reactor Coverstock - What I've been missing?!
« on: August 01, 2006, 07:28:20 AM »
Hi Everyone,

This topic is about Storm Coverstocks. I have recently been using an X-Factor Vertigo (SFA coverstock) and the Paradigm (EOX coverstock), both have been outstanding so far for the month that I've been using them. The X-Factor Vertigo seemed to take a liking to the 800 Grit Gray Scotchbrite pad. I find the Vertigo to be pretty versatile so far.

I have also had success with the Eraser Reactive released in 2000. I believe it utilizes the Accu-Tread coverstock. It has been 6 years since I've had the ball and it still rolls and hits awesome.

I also picked up a Storm Recharge (Monsoon coverstock I believe), and this ball is really smooth. It was a used one I picked up from mrbowlingnut here on the Forum. I might have to get this plugged and redrilled.

Which brings me to this point. I have yet to own a Storm Ball with the infamous Reactor Reactive Coverstock. I've thrown my buddies' Fired Up and I am very impressed by it. Geez, makes me think why I don't have a ball with the Reactor coverstock yet!

Seems like most of the Mid-Priced and High Performance balls Storm is releasing utilize some form of Reactor (Pearl, Solid Resin, etc.)

Looking forward to trying out more Storm products in the future. So Far...So Good!

Thanks!

Well I can only say that everyone seems to like the Reactor.  Luckily, you will be able to make a really good comparison since you are familiar with all of those other covers.

You better like it, because with the exception of the new Jolts and the Paradigms, which aren't out yet, everything they have is Reactor.  They sure are putting all their eggs in one basket.

Well, I must say that I would put all my eggs in one basket too if all my eggs were made of freakin' GOLD!

What a great coverstock!

Not recently.  Current balls are using two variations of Powerboost, PK17, PK18, Activator, Activator Plus, Advance, Maxx, and a particle cover of unknown composition.  Even if you want to lump all the Activators together, that's still nearly half a dozen covers.

IMO, Reactor is far better than any cover storm has and one of the better ones on the market!

Brunswick has done the same thing with Activator.  Other than their low end balls everything uses Activator in some form.  I guess the theory is when you have a winner keep riding it.

I'm happy to see that Storm is bringing back AccuTread with the Jolts, but they have some other good coverstocks that they could use as well.

It is curious to me how short of a shelf life Monsoon and SFA had at Storm.  Granted, I agree that Reactor is better on the wet/dry transition than Monsoon, but Monsoon has its value especially as a smooth reacting solid (a la the Super Charge).

Let's not forget the Dark Thunder has some kind of SuperMonsoon.

But yes those Reactor Eggs in their basket are quite gold.

OK so why doesnt stom just make a reactor + or reactor x cover stock. Just like Brunswick. Evean know they call it actavator max all they did was tweak it a bit to get the ball to go a bit longer or roll a bit earler. Its still the same cover just tweaked. I thank more ball companys should do this. If it works why make a new cover?

I like that Storm doesn't do this.
