Interesting package on the door step today
« on: September 20, 2007, 09:54:30 AM »
Got home from school about 15 minutes ago...

and on the door step I see somthing I was not expecting a box( a heavy one)

I open it up and to my surprise I see a storm ball box.

pull it out and I see a special agent.

Good top weight but the pin is a bit short for my liking, (1-1.5)

no for someone with as much hand as I have this tends to provide a reaction that I do not like,

and since this was supposed to be a replacement for the ball i have that cracked (see profile for pics) it is not what i want.

I have not decided how I want to drill it, or even if i will or sell it and get a T-Road pearl like I was looking for as the make up gift from storm.

either way, any suggestions from the storm nation?

What's the actual top on it?  Unless it's more than 3oz or so, you should be able to drill it almost any way you want to without worrying about statics.  Even with a 1-1.5" pin, with <3oz of top weight you can put the pin above the fingers.

Especially with the short pin and your rev rate, I really would recommend not bothering with this ball unless you are going to see medium-heavy to heavy oil.  The Special Agent is a fantastic ball (in my opinion at least), but only for the right lane conditions.  If you do see that condition, however, go for it!  A higher pin may not be a bad choice.

The box says 2 oz of top weigh but it has not been confirmed...

I still use the cracked one, its not effected...

I as looking for somthing to fit between the cobalt and the tropical

The special works good on anything towards the heavy end of the scale.

What is your rev rate?  I got really bored watching 4 minutes of you shooting right side spares in the video in your profile.  Anyway, the pin to cg distance isn't really very important unless you have a specific drill pattern in mind that will need a long pin.  You seem to imply a high rev rate, and if anything, shorter pins tend to be smoother than long pins.  I would think that would be an asset.  Sounds like you're whining about a free ball when the one that was supposed to be replaced is still functioning.

Not whining in the slightest.

Just not really what I was expecting.

Also there are 7 videos in my you tube file, I had to film it when I was sending it  into a university and it was to large for 1 vid, so any of the others would suffice,

but I don't know the exact number for my rev rate.

Only 2oz of top weight?  Drill it any way you like.  Pin high?  Drill the fingers a little deeper.  Swing the CG?  No problem.  Pin real low?  Drill the thumb deeper.  Pin close to PAP?  With only 2oz of top, you won't have any trouble keeping it legal.

Assuming it's really 2oz.

Well then what was the point of getting it replaced so soon ?

Well I contacted storm, and was having email troubles @ the time, so I was talking to 2 people.

Bob on the phone and Ernest via email.

Earnest told me to hang onto the ball and they will replace it if it got worse, then bob told me that they were gonna replace it.

I was under the impression they were going to give me a different ball (I wanted a T-Road), but then they stopped contacting me.

all of a sudden without notification or warning theres a special on the doorstep. but they are not my usual specs so I was looking for a way to drill it. I am not that used to drilling with a pin that short, I had to do it on my tropical as well, and it ended up with a hole about 2 inches above my bridge cause of the 3 oz top weight

Your tropical is pin up with a short pin. Your Special is pin down. As a direct replacement for the cracked ball it is fine for the pin down layout. Sorry i am a believer of nothing less than pin distance of 2.25" or higher for pin up.
