Invasion Layout Help......
« on: April 22, 2010, 05:55:17 AM »
I just got my Invasion in the mail yesterday. It has a 3 inch pin, 2.12 top and the CG is kicked one inch left of the PIN and MB line. I was either thinking of laying it out Pin under ring or bridge with the MB in the Strong position or stacking it with the pin next to ring and MB next to thumb. I haven't tried a stack layout in a very long time especially on a Assymetrical ball. Has anyone here tried a stack layout on an Invasion? I was also thinkign pin up but since my span is 4-5/8 and i use the VISE IT Thumb i would have to drill the fingers pretty deep or drill a weight hole in the finger quadrant. I also use no finger grips. Please let me know what you would suggest. Thanks in advance.

Riggs,i would like your opinion.

I think you're approaching it backwards.  What kind of ball reaction do you want?  We can then come up with a layout based on that.

What Dan said ^^^

What kind of reaction do you seek?  And what are your axis coordinates?  And describe your game some.

I have not done a stack but if got another INVASION I wouldn't hesitate to do one.

Monster Stitch, I took a look through your profile and all of your equipment. I want to ask why do you want the Invasion? What are you looking for? Seeing that you use pretty similar drill patterns in a few different balls, why not go for something completely different? I personally love my Invasion and it's drilled 60 by 5 by 40. That layout puts the pin right above my middle finger with the MB right below and right of my thumb. I keep it at 4000, did have it at 1000 by hand for a pretty tight tournament condition. Just figure out what you think you need and want the ball too roll like or figure out something you never tried before.

Well i want the Invasion to be on top of my VG. I want the ball to go long and be continuous on the backend. This ball will be specific for my tournament arsenal since around my area on the west the lanes aren't super slick. The Invasion will be for Nationals which i will be going at the end of May. My PAP is 5-3/8 over and 1/2 inch up. I have a 300 rev rate and throw 16 to 17 mphs. I can play both down and in and inside and change my releases. I usually keep my layouts very simple so that's why i drill a lot of my stuff pin up over fingers and pin down with a low hole.

Right now my Storm Arsenal looks like this:

VG - Pin Up
Second Dimension - Pin Down
TRoad Solid - Pin Down
HyRoad - Pin Up
TRoad Pearl - Pin Up
natural - Label

I personally recommend the double thumb layout. We drilled one up on for a local Storm Staffer who was absolutely enamored with his Reign of Fires, to the point that he now has 3 of them, but now on the heavy you can't keep the Invasion out of his hands.

Based on what you say Monster, I would go with the stack then. And pin up.

I doubled check the ball last night, drew some lines on it and there is no way i can drill it pin up. I'll try this one with a stack layout and put a weight hole if need be to tweak the reaction to my liking.

Riggs-Have you ever tried anything stacked on any of your current storm balls or know anyone who has? I was just curious how an Invasion would react.

Did you weight the ball?  With a 3" pin and only a 2.12 top weight I can't see why you couldn't do a pin up.

It's because of my span and that i use the VISE IT thumb. It's always better to have some thumb weight before you drill out for the VISE IT thumb. Working with my buddy in the shop we've seen from drilling for the IT system that you have to drill deeper which creates finger weight. For those who use finger inserts it's easier to drill out the weight but for those who don't use inserts it's harder. Your option is to drill very deep or put a weight hole in the finger quadrant which i hate to do because then you don't have an option to tweak the ball by a use of weight hole. Your option is surface only.

Yes I've done stacks on Storm stuff.  One of my favs is a T-ROAD PEARL I still am using.
