dulling an IQ pearl
« on: January 29, 2014, 12:58:31 PM »
picked up an I.Q. pearl about a month ago, and am really fighting the carry with it. To deep inside-weak 10's and 7's, play it straighter- ripping 8's and 9's, 4's and 4-9's. Would dulling it down help. Has anyone tried it? I am a 16mph, tweener. It is a med oiled house shot. Should be killing it, but...... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I would highly recommend breaking the box shine with a 4000 pad to start, if the ball doesnt slow down fast enough with 4000, go to a 3000 pad.

I agree with Northface. Personally I used an old 1000 abralon pad by hand. Did not like this ball oob.

Thanks for the ideas. Bowl league tomorrow night. Will give it a try. If it does not work, my friends boat might have a new anchor.

Agreed. If you don't end up liking it, sell it or trade it to me because I love mine! Seriously though, I had the same situation you did at first. The box shine just wasn't for me. I hit mine by hand with a 2000 pad, and I've LOVED the ball ever since. It still gets down the lane just fine, but it actually gives a little read of the midlane, and it no longer comes in sideways, which has helped my carry percentage a great deal. It's a great ball. Just keep messing with the surface until you get the look and shape you want.

thanks for every ones advice. Scuffed it with a used 2000 abralon pad and shot 650 last night. May not sound like much in this age of high scoring but I was happy with the reaction. Was surprised that as the night went along that I could get inside third arrow and not loose any carry. Thanks again

Had the same problem with my IQ Pearl.  Just too over under and I didn't have the revs to get hitting by hooking the dry.  Tried dulling it, and adding balance hole.  Helped, but eventually I drilled a solid and got the look I really wanted.

i would suggest going 1000 abralon with a coat of polish on it. it will give you length but still blend the over and under

Never mentioned.

The drilling.  I often notice balls with low diffs like this are often drilled with similar drillings to other high diff powerhouses.

People that used a low flaring diff ball like the Fury or Twisted Fury were warned by Brunswick to drill slightly stronger than their normal drillings with powerhouse high flare balls.

The steps you have taken or being recommended here are naturally preferred if they work.  The last choice is to redrill, all that yucky plug and the like!

Heavy,

I think what you might be saying is 1/2 shorter pin to Pap for these lower Diff balls to give them close to the recovery one is used to.

Maybe I am on track?
